The frown is so much less clear in the O+…

In our case, I am not mentioning and she is not asking

My wife orders so much stuff from Amazon that my stuff sorta mixes in and never gets noticed…

Good timing on this. Someone on the WMR team at Microsoft (I’m thinking of Harry Potter with his under the stairs broom cupboard in terms of offices) is talking about a new feature where 60Hz can be picked without reducing resolution or FOV - sounds nice:

Due in the 20H1 build of Windows, so dunno, maybe July ish for release?

That’s great. The WMR guys at MS have actually been pretty active on Reddit and addressing improvements and bugs. Like you mentioned, I wouldn’t be surprised if WMR support disappeared tomorrow, but so far it is looking pretty good.

Spoke to a very nice person at HP, in fact I spoke to about 5 very nice people all across the globe, all of whom wondered philosophically about ‘what is a VR headset?’ followed by ‘what is a VR headset?’ and finally got it to a state of ‘what, a VR headset?’ as they call transferred me.

Long story short (breaking convention here), I have a new v2 one shipped to me by Jan 18th. If I prefer it I keep it, and send the other one back in a box. Result!

LOL…sounds about right. Bounced around until you land on someone who, out of lack of any other recourse, sends you a replacement. That’s awesome!

Coincidentally
My wife tells me when you talk very nicely to very nice people very nice things happen. ??

I just got my Reverb consumer version, so here are some thoughts.

Resolution. Holy smokes! This is big step up from any VR HMD I have experienced before (Gear Vr, Lenovo Explorer, Odyssey+). I settled with SteamVR SS 150% and first time feel satisfied with VR resolution and clarity. I was blown away when I saw snowing in DCS, now it feels real (I am from Finland, so makes me expert I guess).

Colors. I was a bit worried to upgrade from OLED to LCD, but I am quite satisfied with the colors of the Reverb screens. Of course the blacks are dark grey, but at least there is not the black smear of OLED.

Lenses. This is little mixed bag. My IPD is 60.5 so not exactly the optimal 63mm of the Reverb. This combined with smallish sweet spot does not do justice for the whole area of those gorgeous displays. I guess this is more or less problem for all HMDs, but this could be better in Reverb.

Size & comfort. I would rate the comfort a bit higher than in Odyssey+. Reverb is a lot smaller and a bit lighter also making it reasonable comfy for even longer flights. Smaller size also makes wearing glasses under reverb quite difficult. My next stop will be VrOptician, and maybe try contact lenses (for the first time in my life) while waiting for the inserts. Oh, and the cable: too bulky and more noticeable than in Odyssey+.

Sound. This one goes to Odyssey+, which has noticeably better sound quality in the integrated headphones. Luckily you can remove the headphones from Reverb, so I can use even better headphones at the cost of ease of use. There was also sound missing from the right speaker that was fixed by removing and reattaching the said speaker.

TL;DR: Hp Reverb is very good and balanced HMD. The resolution is amazing! Negatives are smallish sweet spot, no IPD adjustment and bulky cable.

Great observations…! If they could change to a mechanical IPD adjustment and manufacture a slimmer cable…the Reverb would be nearly perfect.

After a short delivery delay due to ‘snow’ (UPS, really? Have you seen Eastern Canada :snowflake: , we got like four flakes vaguely stuck together here on this coast) HP Support sent me a brand new Reverb.

Looking at the serial number it is a week 41 v2, so things couldn’t have gone better. I love the Reverb so far, and I don’t think I could do VR sim’ing without it now. The resolution makes a huge difference to things like DCS and X-Plane that it’s impossible to go back now.

I contacted the Amazon Renew seller when I first got it about when they were getting more in. I am slightly wary of doing this, but if anyone is looking for a Reverb then they could get a real bargain. I paid about $430 USD for mine, and I have now have a brand new v2 one.

If you want to take a chance (as in I don’t know if they all would have the remaining warranty allowing me to exchange it like mine did) then the store is

PM me if you want the date they are released and the seller id (I’m thinking if I post it now then other non-mudspikians might grab em). Remember, no guarantees from me, but whatever you do with Amazon Renewed you can return within 90 days regardless.

Currently I am a Rift CV1 user. Basically I’ve been happy since day one and still am. I got used to things like MFD readability, target spotting etc.
it’s ok for me, but I KNOW it could be better.

This knowledge alone is always pushing me into the direction of buying something better.

It seems that everyone agrees the Reverb being king for DCS currently.

I have to set my CV1 to the lowest IPD (~59mm) to have a sharpish image. Would the reverb make any sense for my alien face?

My IPD is 60 and the Reverb seems to work ok for me.

IPD 60.5 here, and Reverb feels fine after using Odyssey+. I am still waiting for the lens inserts though.

Also, you get little wider sharp peripheral vision (for one eye) when your IPD is lower than the HMDs sweetspot. At least this is my understanding of how things work.

Hmmm ok I guess there is no way around ordering it and relying on Amazon’s return policy just in case…

Thanks guys

So I removed my headphones to try a set I had and after replacing the HP ones the right headphone isn’t working.

I’ve got two more days return period through Amazon so I could exchange for a new one that way.

Or RMA through HP? I just don’t want to get stuck with a refurbed reverb if I can avoid it. What do you guys think? Go the Amazon route?

I would go through Amazon - I’m guessing it will be faster, and from what I’ve read by /u/voodooimax the Amazon ones are allegedly all new (Gen 2) units. But who knows…

Thats the way I was leaning. I would suspect all of the Reverb’s in Amazon’s inventory are the Gen 2 units by now.
