HP Reverb Redux

I am not particularly happy. After sending in my broken unit beginning of November, I am still waiting for a replacement.

Very happy with Reverb

Flawless HP customer service as well.

Absolutely you should! …and I will PM you the address in Hampton VA where you should have it shipped.

Boy oh boy do I love my Index. However, the constant barrage of "the resolution of the Reverb is AMAZING’ comments has me wondering if I need to try it. Anyone know if you purchase a set from Amazon if it can be returned if unsatisfied?

Yeah, really like my Index too, zero problems with it so far, and Steam VR gets better with every update I find. And, it has IPD adjustment :stuck_out_tongue:
If you go read the ED VR forum, it’s a bit strange that the Index only has one or two threads, while the Reverb usually has a good number of tweaking and trouble shooting threads going. But, without knowing the count of both headsets, nothing can be concluded from that of course.
If only it wasn’t so bloody expensive to check out all the top end VR sets, sigh…

If you happen to pop up around Dortmund in Germany, check out MRTV Experience offered by Sebastian Ang. He has got them all and you can test them all :+1:

Alright, got some time to spend with my new Reverb last night and I have to say I’m impressed. I find it to be much more comfortable than the O+ and the image quality is amazing. The new A-10C is a blast to fly in VR.

It took me about an hour to get the settings dialed in to where things are smooth and look good. Of course I’ll continue to tweak it but so far so good.

Great to hear. Yeah…the first time I put on the Reverb and went into the Cliff House and Steam VR menus…I was blown away by the sharpness. Colors aren’t as great as the O+ for sure…but overall the experience is very nice if you have the hardware to drive it.

Be advised that if you enable motion reprojection, every time Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR updates, it overwrites your default.vrsettings file. I know this because I enable the motion Reprojection Indicator and it disappears after every update. I’ve created a shortcut to the settings folder, so that it’s easy for find and edit. On my system:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\MixedRealityVRDriver\resources\settings

YMMV

How do you guys find the controllers for the Reverb? I guess it doesn’t matter if you are using HOTAS for DCS and the like.

I don’t have the O+ anymore so I can’t make a direct comparison on the colors but I don’t think the reverb looks washed out or anything. Colors look good enough for me.

I have a fairly high-end system with 8700K at 5Ghz, 2080TI and 32Gb of Ram. What general settings are you guys running?

I’m doing ā€œVery Highā€ and ā€œbest qualityā€ setting in WMR. Refresh rate is 90hz and Resolution set to 110% in SteamVR and ā€œmotionReprojectionModeā€ : ā€œautoā€ in VRSETTINGS file. PD is 1.0 in DCS.

I don’t intend to use them much since I’m mainly going to be flying in DCS with the reverb. I think the controllers are standard, nothing special WMR controllers, similar to the Odyssey.

My system is similar, albeit I’m running @ 4.8 for x-plane. I try to get res near or at 100% to save on fps. Everything else the same as you.

I’ve not had trouble with the controllers at all. I keep my room fairly bright though and don’t use them with flight sims. Mostly things like the IIS where you need to pull yourself around in zero G, or Google Earth VR.

I’ll try 100% and see how it goes. I’m also running MSAA at 2x since I can’t stand shimmering and jaggies.

Same here in DCS.

The ones that come with the Reverb are standard WMR controllers. I actually like the more contoured ones that came with my Odyssey +, so I paired them to my Reverb. No WMR controller is as good as the original Rift Touch controllers…Oculus got that perfect in my opinion.

Are they good enough for VTOL VR? Beat saber?

My only experience has been the rift s, and I agree the touch controllers are pretty great. I do wish they had features like the valve knuckle controllers where you can do full gestures with the hands. Those look really sweet.

Well, I fell victim to the siren song of increased resolution and my Reverb has been ordered through Amazon. Should get it by next weekend and then I’ll try it out against my Index. Unless it absolutely crushes the Index in resolution, I’ll probably keep the Index as that headset has been great for me thus far. Stay tuned…

P.S. - Hopefully @chipwich can get me squared away with this Windows Portal thing. Seems like I’m just adding another layer of complexity to my previous experiences with Rift, Rift S and the Index.
