Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020

Razbam still does fsx stuff?

My goodness. This is looking amazing…

VRS’ CEO has publicly s*** all over DCS in the past. These are not the droids you are looking for.

No they do not…

They got out of FSX just as I was getting not Razbam tactical aircraft. (A few years back). Their A-7 series was very cool.

These follow up videos are a bit odd, as they just re-edit the existing video with a different narration, but the same content. It’s like I could do a new video called ‘What ObisidianAnt thinks about This Video of The Video’. All good PR and ad views though, so no harm, just a little circular…

I actually have not really kept up on what’s going on with Microsoft Flight 2020 but I do subscribe to Obsidian Ant and enjoy his content. He does such a nice job laying things out.

He does have a very soothing voice, love his Elite Dangerous content.

What are the chances that this evolves into a combat sim, and if so, what does that do to DCS?

The situation is that msfs20 to be a substitute of a dcs only because will have some fighters modeled is too much positive dreaming. MSFS and XP have military bombers and fighters and all the world and XP by core support weapons and never substitute DCS and not because the classic reasons people not like msfs or xp.

The reasons are that to be a real military flight simulator is not only some fighters well modeled to the rivet. You should have weapons worked perfectly like the real counterparts, radars, electronic warfare, AI, hundreds of different ground military equipment (tanks, ifv, soldiers, trucks, …), ground war (tanks vs tanks on ground), artillery, sam, aaa, campaigns, missions, military atc comms, etc etc etc. All these things are not even on dreams of what MS want to make on msfs20. Also some addons like tacpak and others similar, not only offers 0.01% of what mentioned above also provides something that even a dedicated combat fs from 90s are much better combat fs than modern civil fs with these kind of addons.
Its like, trying to turn excel into a word processor or vice versa.
The same way DCS is not a good civil flight sim…

If msfs20 not have, and will not have, by core, weapons and military AI and all the features around it, military aircrafts there is only to use them in non military trainning sessions or half baked and fake military ops as exactly we can already have with our current civil sims pimped with some addons.

msfs20 is not the messiah and will cure and save the world in everything. Its pretty, yes, also many people forget some videos and pics from our current sims like a well tuned xp11 or p3d. msfs20 is not miles miles better than what we have or can have. Even bing maps flight sim isnot the first time, Flyinside FS already have orthophoto all the world bing maps and already available to all. Ofc dreaming is nice but I will not think that msfs20 can be the best ever made fp shooter only because i saw people on the airports and will start to uninstall all my shooters and will uninstall all my truck and racing sims because msfs20 can be the best ever made car racing sim because i saw cars and trucks there.

Unlikely I would have thought, or rather years ahead which is hard to predict which way the winds of Microsoft will be blowing.

One thing it will do is probably reset expectations on what sort of graphics and performance are expected on modern hardware. That’s where a modern games company using a custom engine, with lots of people/dollars thrown at it, will make it hard to compete for the existing more, um, ‘boutique’ combat sim producers we have today. It’s a question of economics. Graphics and frame-rate aren’t everything though, as our SF2 thread proves every day.

Still does, nothing has changed.

wow, then even DCS can’t be categorized as ‘military flight sim’

Good point.

My dream is, say, MS ‘weaponizing’ the engine and DCS, among others, spending their time with the military context/mods…but it must have VR of course. I know it’s not likely. Just dreaming.

Bit of a nothing burger. Nice screenshots though.
