Man I am stuck on Quill’s channel watching his videos as he is visiting a lot of places that aren’t handcrafted and haven’t been shown in promotional material.
And they look awesome 99% of the time.
You guys that are intending to get it, you probably shouldn’t watch so many videos, etc. You may ruin your “oh my…” feeling when you experience it yourself. Hard to resist though.
I don’t think I’ll truly get that feeling until my first VR flight, which will be with the Reverb G2. The videos are kind of addictive right now though. It is good to see some of the quirks as well as the amazing stuff.
I was never someone who cared a lot about such things.
Doing it myself, seeing the spots I want to see, that’s not something that videos can spoil for me.
Now that is the only review that matters!
I always wondered where the kids (falsely) diagnosed with ADHS end up, apparently they all turn out to do game reviews on youtube. I’m getting too old for videos with more than 2 cognitive leaps per second.
Those multiple thunderous explosions in the background leading up to a tumultuous Crescendo are the heads of Avsim Leet Flyers exploding after being exposed to this video…
It appears Microsoft has money to literally throw away.
“Why the £&@! me?”
I’m sure MS’ PR and Marketing Department is asking themselves the exact same question.
I thought it hilariously bad, but mostly hilarious. And very effective marketing at that. It shows how it is when driven by an absolute herpaderp. And it still looks fun and gorgeous. Boss move on microsofts’ part if you ask me.
I mean, they must have seen his FSX and X-plane video’s? Surely? Or any other type of simulator, I remember in 2012 first discovering him through the trainsim video’s!
So looks to me from a quick scan through of the Nerd3 video, that we simply get a Sopranos style ‘fade to black’ crash model.
Eh, I get it. Why bother with a combat sim style damage model when you’re not being shot at? Keeps the focus on flying an not nascar style crash highlight reels.
I do think that tire damage would be warranted though. I still remember the 'holy cow, they do that?!" reaction when I first blew out the nose wheel on the A-10C in DCS.
Has anyone mentioned systems failures in any of these vids? Or Engine overheating?
Essentially it’s all Fade to Black. Within the community there seem to be a number of people who will go absolutely insane at the thought of Crash damage, and will immediately start calling you a psychopath, or opine that you need mental assistance if you even suggest it.
While I get the “no explosions” idea, there is something to be said for the feedback you get from a hard landing.
Is it going to be a simple pass/fail instead of blown tires, bent props, or buckled skins? Land 30% too hard, plane has no reaction, land 31% too hard and black screen?
There have also been some notable incidents such as bird strikes (Sully on the Hudson?), hail damage, or even the Sioux City engine loss-damage scenario.
Perhaps they want to model it more realistically, but due to time constraints, didn’t want to do a half-ass job. Maybe it’ll be added in their 10 year plan.
Of course, it could not be added to due to glorification of airplane crashes. Imagine Youtube flooded with people crashing their planes into skyscrapers with cool effects. That would bring MS civilian flight sim into a negative rather than a military combat sim.
