Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020

Nice to see Froogle using TrackIR … lookin’ good!

If you guys keep posting videos, Elby will need to make another batch of Kool aid.

Froogle’s vid was quite unbiased and objective with no special dawn/dusk lighting or weather … AND IT STILL BLOWS MY MIND! The scenery is incredible! Just have to overlook the van driving through the plane.

Honestly that ship sailed long ago… and from multiple ports.

This.

I think a forza style damage model would be an appropriate balance; the plane gets dented and bent but never “‘splodeded” . And like forza its more about how the things under the hood (literally and figuratively) are breaking and how they impact the behavior of the aircraft.

This would curb the crash vouyerists while enabling a more punishing (and by extension, rewarding) style of play.

I recall in FSX I switched all crashes off on the day one left it this way. Never really missed that feature tbh

xplane 11 planes explode, I don’t think it caused some severe reaction where people avoided the product. Reminds me of the ISIS in ARMA uproar. Like the media went all crazy because there is this game where you can pretend to be terrorists killing American soldiers. Because thats not the case in LITERALLY every FPS game. If someone wants to get their panties in a twist they will certainly find a way to do so.

I don’t mind fade to black at all for crashes. I think it’s a nice and stylish way of not having to deal with imagery of airliners flying into towers.

I would like failures that keep the machine in more or less working orders to be like those in Il-2. Engines, surfaces, tires, all of those can make flight very interesting when degraded. So I hope that this sim supports that, and that in due time will feature detailed damage models.

Buy through X-box Game Studios or Steam?

In a game with no combat, dealing with legit dangers like lightning or birds or random uncontained blade failures seems perfectly acceptable.

Collisions with other aircraft is debatable.

Ok, I pulled the trigger. The release of the G2 VR did it. I can’t see why it won’t support any other WMR device…

X-Plane won’t be getting much love from me now, cuzz, well:

Not counting DCS \

It will.
Probably a PR ploy to start out with the G2, and perhaps to reduce the number of VR users, initially.

I’m reserving judgement. The ground handling and flight modeling in X-Plane is worth the effort of getting it up and running…and I’ve always thought its VR implementation was quite good…so MFS has a lot to live up to and surpass.

BUT…I’m talking about a heavily modded X-Plane with Ortho and traffic and a bunch of other stuff…so it is an apples (out of the box MFS) to oranges (heavily modded X-Plane) comparison.

There is a lot to be said for having an out of the box experience that doesn’t require modding. But ya’ll know we’ll mod it to death…

Exactly.
I keep telling myself that I want MSFS to be a one stop flightsim shop, but I know all too well that the very moment someone releases a tweak or mod, I’ll be there clicking that d/l button…

Understood. The idea of not having to d/l all the areas was #2 on my list; ATC #3, then WX…

I’m assuming 3rd party aircraft flight modeling will be of higher fidelity as the PR indicates the underlying flight model code will allow this.

I’m hip. So far the only tweak I might want (if not already a setting) is something like: Medium terrain, High clouds. May be an option already.

Looking forward to the bush flying mostly

Interestingly, today I received an email from Carenado advertising MSFS2020 for pre-purchase through their store…

I also received an email yesterday about my Reverb G2 pre-order, which might mean things are going on in the background there too.

I hope Orbx re-releases or updates their PNG scenery for MFS. That area was crazy…
