Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020

Welp, its far more complicated than I can wrap my head around just fiddlin’…

You could try YT if you don’t mind video tutorials.
IIRC I saw one or two.

But I do. I loathe them. Especially when narrated in accents and full of filler about like and subscribe buttons and patreons and such garbage. What’s wrong with writing it up and publishing that and put a banner ad on the site if you wish to make a cent per view?

Kids these days… I was honestly hoping someone would tell him it was a metric clock…

Create a topic and ask here, people are keen to help?

Here’s a couple of non-intuitive things on the C4J to kick off:

  • There is no auto-throttle on the Citation even though it looks like it on the AP. What you can do is set a speed on the autopilot and the system adjusts climb etc pitch to match it. The physical throttle has indents for cruise/climb etc to set at. It sort of works.

  • To capture the ILS, switch from GPS to VOR nav input. You can use the top left NAV toggle here (marked beautifully as ‘1’) -

…or via the PFD Menu. You should get a pink FD lines go green.

  • You can zoom in/out the main display ARC using the fake toggle here, marked (2).

  • VNAV features on the stock aircraft is sort of non-existent, and it’s very handy on a fast jet like this. The mod here is better in practically every way. If you like the type then it’s probably worth just using the mod, as it has a lot of the bugs fixed up out of the gate.

I think the yellow arrow points to the nearest McDonalds? :hamburger:

Anyone else getting some weird terrain spikes? This was up around Concrete Municipal (3W5)…

Yeah it happens now and then.

I’ve seen quite a few terrain anomalies since the last update.

Thanks…I don’t think I was seeing them before the update…so not sure what happened there…

Came out of thick cloud between Telluride and Aspen only to have the crap scared out of me by a thousand foot alien capsule sticking up out of the ground. In VR those terrain speaks are very unnerving when unexpected

Could try turning off Rolling Cache in the settings. I think it defaults on. It is useful for saving bandwidth, but if that’s not a concern then things seem to run more smoothly with it off (and deleted).

Thanks for the tip…I’ll give it a whirl…

I don’t suppose there is any way to have a “favorites” airport list in the GUI huh? That is a feature I like about X-Plane…having the “starred” list that allows me to choose my custom airports.

Sadly they used the star for something else already.

I usually just type in the ICAO code, much faster than scrolling there.

I was in your shoes a few short weeks ago, just a few posts ahead of yours. And then VR came out and I am having the time of my life and am excited again for MSFS. Hopefully when you reinstall it will be in better shape… And so say all of us!

Yeah I agree. I am probably going to wait for Helicopter support and newer local Ortho before I try again.

NEVO
I notieced the same when I was testing MSFS
wondering if this is going to be updated somewhere down the road or they just run the orthos through the AI (colors correction, clouds removal, …) just once at the beginning and thats it?
did somebody checked if the ‘world updates’ like the one for Japan and USA featured ortho update or not?

Aginor
IIRC they said how long re-building the whole world takes, and it was a day or something.
They said they plan regular updates for the ortho in the same Interview IIRC.
If I had to make a guess I’d say that central Europe has a better chance of getting an update than other parts of the world.
Japan was basically a test run, the USA was because data is well available there and most players come from there.
(Parts of) Europe might be next because there are lots of European players around and it is rather easy to get data for most countries there. However it is pretty dense, so they might go for somethibg easier before that.

As far as I have understood it, they are using the current Bing Maps Ortho in MSFS 2020.
So any upgrade of the Bing Maps Orthos should be reflected in MSFS 2020.

One can only hope that they will get around to updating them sooner than later.

I cannot understand why the Danish Ortho has not been updated. 12,5cm/pixel Orthos for all of Denmark taken in spring 2019 is available from the Danish government for free download and free private and/or commercial use, as long as you credit the supplier and name the sets and when they where downloaded.

I do admit that I like the old download site way much better than the new one. On the old one you could pick 10x10km blocks from a map and create a download order for those chunks.
I have yet to figure out the new version.

I found out that it is possible to find out when a Bing Maps Ortho set is from with Zoom Earth.

Here is an area of Copenhagen that is from May 2014 and it looks like all of Copenhagen is from 2014

The Ortho around Copenhagen Airport is newer.

And here is Kennedy Space Center and that is from December 2017

My hometown in Bing is from March 2014

I am not quite sure about that.
I can’t find the source right now but I could swear I have seen them mentioning “other data sources” as well.
