You basically have to start at the beginning by earning your fixed wing PPL (laughably easy). You then unlock various ratings along a career path tree by taking checkrides. The checkrides cost money, so you have to fly missions to earn the required cash. Flying the missions also increases your reputation/level which in turn unlocks more demanding jobs that are available to you.
As you get more ratings, increasingly capable aircraft become unlocked.
So, basically a bit of grinding is involved before you can tackle the interesting tasks like fire fighting. The grind isnāt too bad though. Judging from the UI, there will be more features added in the future, such as starting your own company.
My main gripe is that the āHelpersā that show the desired flight path, taxi route etc are a little too gamey for my liking. I know how to taxi to the end of a runway, and I am quite capable of navigating from point A to B. I would like an option to turn all that off, and also to skip the grind and jump straight into the fire fighting, EMS, SAR type missions.
Iām really loving the new āfree camā tool in 2024ā¦ much easier than before. And imagine my surprise when I was taking a screen of the tower and notice people walking then jumping off of it! Awesome. lol
Now I got to go to Vegas and see if they jump from there, which I did early this year. lol

Iāve been enjoying MSFS2024 on XBox Series X, since the PC version for me still has problems - mostly very long loading times into the main menu, which weirdly doesnāt happen on console. I suspect they have different infrastrucure for PC vs the consoles?
Anyway, Iām going through the Career Mode whch is prety cool, recently unlocked the Skydiving missions - those are fun! Looking forward to more mission types, though you need to grind a bit for the credits needed for certifications and other prerequisites for unlocking other mission types.
btw @PaulRix to easily disable all the āgameyā helpers you can press left thumbstick (by default) if youāre playing with gamepad on console.
I noticed everything is streaming. Would it be better quality if I installed those city updates? I have a strong internet connection but sometimes it just looks like crap. Also, I have all the updates and upgrades from MSFS 2000, should I be installing them also? Thx.
Currently, you canāt change anything. Everything that is currently deemed compatible with MSFS2024 in your 2020 library will be automatically brought over.
The only option you have is to place things in your community folder and see if they work.
I just opened MSFS 2020. I have only have flown it for 25 hours in four years. In the exact same span of time (August 2020)ā¦I flew VTOL VR for 157 hours.
