MSFS 2024

I’m not sure how interesting, though. All the Airliner EFB’s in the sim use simbrief, and I know of no way to get the Asobo planner info into them.

The flight plan is available once you save it. MSFS 2024 > Free Flight > EFB > Route icon > Load flight plan > Select flight plan > Load > File plan with ATC.

I got that part. What I mean is that its cool for having the ATC (kind of) follow you, but the internal systems of the jets are setup to take data from simbrief, not this, unless you want to set it up in the plane manually or do other tedious steps.

I find it easier to use the new simbrief panel and then load the simbrief plan into the sim, which also (kind of) gives the info to ATC as well, without additional steps.

Well… in the end after having a few more bush flights and watching the latest dev stream

I got an impression that MS/Asobo were commited to work on the new sim as much a they did on the old one. So I bought the Premium Deluxe edition despite my earlier proclamation that I would wait till 2025.

You did good! But you’ll find more rough than diamond at this point in time. The next update promises dozens of big fixes and maybe a few wishlist corrections.

Sorry if I missed it earlier…but I just saw on a social media site that you can get a trial of X-Box Gamepass or whatever for a month and that gives you access to MSFS 2024 to try it out…is that true? And is it the gold level or whatever of the game?

It‘s true, and easy to get rid of, too.

But it‘s the standard version of MSFS 24.

Plenty of planes, though!

If you get Game Pass Ultimate you can play MSFS2024 on XBox, PC and in the cloud. All your progress is shared between the platforms. That’s how I play it. Additionaly you also get plenty of nice new titles in GamePass like STALKER2 and Indiana Jones among many others.

Probably would look even closer to real life if those trees were tamed with Bijans tree mod for 2024…

I also note that the available Rome Fiumicino airport addon for the sim actually has the solar collectors, which would have been very cool to see!

Is it that good?

I have his 2020 edition and am hesitating whether to get the 2024 one.

It’s very good. Any issues seem solely from Microsoft’s side. (areas where the blocky blob photogrammetry trees have been left as is, and not converted to individual trees)

It does work for some large aircraft in the sim, most notably FS2024 titles that are fully compatible with the EFB. As far as loading it in the aircraft systems, there are no tedious steps. Once you click File with ATC, just under that button is a Send to Avionics option. That drops it in the plane’s FMC.

It uses FS2024’s aircraft as a database, so little setup and fleet management. It knows what aircraft you are flying.

Another nice feature is that it is cross platform, allowing PC users to share flight plans with Xbox console users. Since flight plans are stored in your Xbox account, you can create them on a PC or tablet, then load them while flying on an Xbox console. PC users can also save them locally, but I fail to see the benefit of this since the sim is in essence a thin client. You’re pretty much going to need an Internet connection to fly. Perhaps some additional portability.

I’m not arguing that it will replace SimBrief, just that it’s a really powerful sim integrated flight planning tool with multiple platform interoperability.

I deleted and reinstalled FS2024 last night. That solved my not being able to disable auto rudder issue, but now there is potentially a more aggravating one, frequent pauses in the sound. It similar to when you first boot the sim after initial install and it appears to be still downloading necessary components. Anyone else having sound pauses? I rebooted a few times and let it run overnight, but the behavior continued.

Other anomalies. I flew a short test flight down the Columbia river from Pearson (KVUO) to Troutdale (KTTD) and when I landed, there were aircraft and ground objects like ramp personnel flashing in and out of view. There was a Skyhawk frozen in midair above the field at about pattern altitude. Clearly, there is a lot left to sort out

@chipwich I’ve read on the forum about sound issues. It seems to be PC only and I cannot recall the solution, if any. But the thread had more than a handful of posts, which seems to be how Asobo prioritizes community complaints. The good news is that the first major sim update will be today or the 12th (why not the 11th? French holiday?).

Just watched the video. MSFS ‘24 is impressive, yes. But what wowed me was how perfectly synced the two flights were.

Somewhat glossed over in the changelog is the ability to disable Asobo hand-crafted airports through the content manager so as to not conflict with third-party sceneries.

(though not sure whether they glossed over it or I did…)
