MSFS 2024

wondering , does it explains the below pic ? didnt the reviewers just get frustrated ? its like the reviewers got different version than the users or something …

I think it all depends what one expects and how one uses the sim.

Without starting (yet another) discussion how great/horrible MSFS 2024 is, let me just highlight the following:

  • visually it is indeed the best I have ever seen myself; note also that most comments below the score in the image refer to visuals
  • there is many problems (still today) when it comes to simulation (the official forum is a good source to have an overview)

So I guess that for someone who spawns on the runway, firewalls the throttle and just marvels on the visuals either from the cockpit or from the outside view, the sim is perfect. Nothing wrong with that.

But I can imagine that someone who belongs to the “hard core simmers” herd may feel a bit underwhelmed by the many bugs related to airplane addons (yes, even the official ones) and implementation of some core sim elements.

So yeah… if the reviewers target rather casual gamers than hard core simmers, I can fully understand their score.

Don’t get me wrong - I am firing up MSFS 2024 90% of the time and usually have a blast. I enjoy what is there to enjoy and try to ignore / get over what is broken for the time being.

That is on my list. I keep thinking I should open an Air Hauler game in MSFS 2024 to see how it compares (the experience) with X-Plane.

I get the criticism. But also, I am not casual. Even though I fly with a controller while sitting on my couch, I am a dedicated power user. By which I mean I use the sim to augment my real flying. I’ve used it to scope out strange airports in Europe before flying to them for work. And more recently I used it to recreate the flying we did in Alaska, including hitting all of the same lakes that we touched on the trip.

The planes I fly in FS2024 are modeled well. I know this because I have either flown them for real or flown very similar types (R44 for the R66; Super Cub for the X-Cub). I was torn a new orifice on the official forum for daring to compliment the ability to walk in the world. I was just a gamer, not serious. But walking in the world is fundamental to flying. We all must preflight. And if we land “off-piste” we might need to walk our takeoff path for ruts, rocks and mush. That’s real flying, only possible to recreate virtually in THIS sim.

So I submit that as a sim, FS2024 isn’t just adequate, barely acceptable, a @&$?show, a cash-grab; but rather perhaps the most complex and successful use of computing power for entertainment purposes in my life to this point. FS2024 is Marylin Monroe. She too was too beautiful to be real. She came to be remembered only for her flaws. Yet only a handful of humans (none of them her naysayers) get to walk this earth and be as impactful as she was in her short life.

Being able to walk around definitely adds to the experience. What we are able to do now with the preflight walk around is just scratching the surface of what could be done with the feature. The Hot Start Challenger 650 for XP11/12 has more pins and covers to remove, plus you can check the accumulators in the nose gear well. I think doing the preflight in MSFS will become more filled out and an important part of the flight.

I have to admit I kind of laugh at the die hard, uncompromised realism crowd. While their dedication and passion is never in doubt, they sometimes miss out on some very important aspects of the very thing they are wanting to emulate. Flying is so much more than a just a mathematical model.

Yep! Rise of Flight sold me before I started the engine. I could hear a slight breeze and birds singing. I knew without moving that it would be great. And it was. Also, I still do believe that XP12 is a better aerodynamic sim by a margin. But the environmental realism of MSFS gives it the edge for me.

Awesome it comes free for all the users. It’s a nicely made aircraft.

That is a great looking airplane. Having instructed for 1000+ hours in the PA-28-160…I love that look of that plane. I sure wish I could buy one (real one) and instruct my kids in it.

One more free one left i believe, for 2024 users

Came across a curiosity. Apparently the last actual round airport. 1I8, and yes, its actually in the game… In Converse, IN

The Buildings are even there.

In the latest update, it Msobo mentioned that they had:

“Modified the new LOD curve to keep a parabole over Screen Size 100% and activated the new curve by default”

For anyone wondering whut’ the heck that meant, somebody asked ChatGPT:
