MSFS 2024

Matt (nishmaster) [Z-6] — 4:01 PM

Happy Nav Cycle Day @everyone!

This morning, Nav Data was updated to Cycle 2507 for all platforms (MSFS 2024, MSFS 2020, and the web flight planner) as of 1500Z. Along with the cycle update, we have a big feature addition to the Flight Planner website: real world routes!

We are now providing worldwide LIDO data preferred routes as well as real-time real-world routes ingested from FAA data, augmenting those preferred routes in the US. Congrats to the team on their hard work on this tricky project, and we hope you enjoy the results. As usual, we have other welcome improvements, such as map elevation enhancements, improved density of wind barbs, and more.

Take a look at https://planner.flightsimulator.com/ for the full changelog.

Fly safe, all!

Big PMDG update news for FS2024 pilots.

EDIT: FYI, if you buy new A/C, like the B777-200LR, it comes with Operations Center 3. Do not uninstall OC2 first, because legacy a/c like the B737 are not supported in OC3 yet.

Just some stuff you might or might be interested to enhance immersion.

Is anyone else having this issue, when trying to move the map to your plane’s location?

Never mind. I guess that you need Simlink running. I thought that was somehow integrated into the sim.

In other news, I’ve been looking for a replacement for Shift-Z Stats. Since the Steam Overlay must be running to get the Marketplace to work, I tried the performance counter. I’m pretty happy with it. All you need in one thin line and very subtle, in case you forget to turn it off when capturing screens. Berlin putting a hit on my FPS it seems. Most everything is on Ultra.

Edit: I did some capture with OBS using the sim as source. Happily, the Steam perf overlay did not show up on the video. I guess since it is generated by another program.

My hardware finally met it’s match in FS2024 on the Ultra preset at 3440x1440. Departing Zurich in the Fenix A320 CFM SL (8k livery) this morning, I got the dreaded out of video memory message. Looking up at the Steam overlay, I saw that the airport/plane/settings combination was using 19.7 GB, which is kind of a problem when your GPU only has 16  Anywho, I really like the card, 4080 Super, in this time of your GPU costing more than the rest of your gaming rig, but dropping back to High-End preset lowered the VRAM usage down to the mid to high 14GB. No problem.

If sanity ever returns to GPU pricing (darn those Nvidia engineers and AI providers) the RTX 5080 Super is looking pretty good with 24 GB, if and when it is released. Not saying that I’d buy one, given the 6xxx rumors, but the VRAM need is real.

This might prove useful for some.

It must be hard to beat Fenix as a dev team these days.

Hmmmmmm… I know some people here like choppers…

Their Chinook is terrific. This will be even better I’m sure. Especially with the sea assets that (I imagine) come with it.

Not to mention the mission generator. I’ll be picking this one up for sure on Thursday.

That’s an incredible launch video. That was a good decision to have 2020 and 2024 versions. Hope that it lives up to the hype.

Mission Hub! I frequent the the MilTech Discord yet this totally flew under my radar!

They are calling it the Mission Hub. The MH60 is going to be the first aircraft that can use it, but their intention is that it will eventually be usable for all aircraft… It looks pretty neat.

But from what i read the few infos on their website it looks few missions from specific places. Not a worldwide ramdom mission generator. Anyway that heli is a must to have. About being the first, i think the H145 with their action pack is the first to have it as also the Hunter (AH-64). Will be epic if this MH60 could generate SAR missions ramdomly worldwide and not only from the 4 places they mensioned.

I am very excited about this thing that I’ve only just learned about. “It’s a game-changer!”—what a dumb over-used hype! But in the case of Mission Hub it could not be a more apt complement to what it will do for MSFS. I’m excited enough to have done a bit of research. Here’s what I know (mostly from MilTech’s @Gabriel on Discord):

*It is a stand-alone product (not part of the MH-60).
*It will cost in the low tens (dollars).
*A planned bundle with the MH-60 will be around $50.
*It will work with ANY aircraft (not just Miltech’s products) but there are limitations.
*It will work with XBOX (as a XBOX-only user I’d like to acknowledge how consistent Miltech’s console support has been).
*Missions can be created then shared (via .xml file on PC. XBOX cloud support at a later date.)
*In SAR missions, as an example, you can have a trigger at the vessel that will pop smoke or start audio (currently included with the -60–the crew will even guide you in!)
*Naval assets. Objects spawn-able on deck!
*Narcosubs! Narcosubs?
*Any simObject is useable.
*Multiplayer planned. At release missions cannot be synced across players. And currently only helicopters/aircraft are observable between players, ie, no simObjects, hoists, etc.
*Landable tankers.

Has anyone ever even tried to go do more like…

I thought I wanted an MH-60 in DCS but this looks like it could satisfy most scratches that make me itch DCS.

I love the Rotorheads server in DCS. I THOUGHT I would love it for all the new logistics features it brought to the multiplayer environment. But I found logistics to be boring. I believe my boredom is the fault of DCS rather than the reality of moving munitions, people and wounded around a battlefield. Some great reading has informed me that this sort of flying can be interesting, often terrifying. In Rotorheads I do what the majority of participants do: blow stuff up. When I do logistics, it’s not for (nor rarely is), having fun. It’s to flip a trigger for the map. It is grind.

But THIS, if implemented as I imagine it can be, can be loads of repeatable joy. The richer MSFS terrain and weather fidelity makes normally simple flying a real challenge. Vaporizing a tank with a radar helfire is easy. Landing on a pitching deck in a driving rain is nerve-wracking.

So I too think this could fill a skill gap that DCS has long promised but never delivered on.

imho in msfs is much better because you have the full world and also if you can only afford 1 flight sim, msfs is way much smaller than +1TB of dcs with dlcs.
