MSFS 2024

Wallet is duly pummeled . Who else here likes the sound of the battery being switched on?

The endearing thing about the 737 is that it is so simple, so basic, so easy to understand. But hard to master. And yes bringing it to life is filled little ā€œclunksā€ and ā€œclinksā€. Several relays are right behind the CB panel.

I’ve finally had time to get my flying PC connected and updated. Having spent a week or so updating software and configuring stuff I sat down this evening to have a quick flight.

Dammit, the toe brakes on my MFG’s weren’t operating correctly.

Convinced it’s because I’ve gone to Windows 11, I spent the next 3 hours trawling the Internet to find a solution. I deleted the calibration of my pedals ran the MFG config and manual calibration. Removed the device multiple times, unbound and rebound in game, tried different USB ports.. you name it, I tried it.

I’d just about given up when I moved my keyboard to one side, I accidentally hit the space bar (remove parking brake on my setup)… I noticed the toe brakes move.

Hahaha. I had a similar experience. My cursor was randomly moving around and I was convinced that the Chicoms had hacked my machine and were watching my every move. After a couple of hours of scanning, uninstalling, and general delousing, I noticed that a second mouse that I had setup had a random cable hooked around it.

You can turn it on by simply walking in and bumping the battery switch!

Ask me how I know

Hey guys, A2A has just posted the Comanche in a native MSFS 2024 version, on their own store. Other stores to follow later.

Upgrade price is $14.99 and ā€œA2A Flying hoursā€ can be applied. I got it for just $8.99, a nice unxpected Christmas present :santa_claus:

I’m still stuck in Dakar, so for the first time, I failed to make it to the destination by Dec 25th. My work schedule is already ramping up, so I’m going to admit defeat at this point. I might continue the route at a relaxed pace over the coming weeks.

Salute Paul. You do get to some exotic locations. Respect for your far reaching aeronautical real life adventures.

I feel I should clarify that I’m ā€˜virtually’ stuck at Dakar, as in that is where my Christmas Trek ground to a halt. My RL globe trotting has been pretty much on hold since the Covid period. Hopefully that will be changing this coming year though.

So, this may have been my own fault…

I’m using the winaero tweaker to turn off bloat and other unwanted stuff in Windows. Yesterday I thought, ā€œwhy not reset it back to standard windows, and seeā€.

Sure enough, I could buy addons in MSFS Marketplace again.

I need to do more research to find out which windows setting that messed it up.

I do find it strange that I could buy apps in MS marketplace and in Xbox, but not in MSFS…

LOL, I should stay away from the eggnog I guess.

Then what would the point of Christmas be..?

I had a great flight in MSFS yesterday! The lighting and atmospherics of this sim is stunning. I was crossing the English Channel in an Islander, flying at dusk at 10.000ft between clouds. It was awesome and soothing, actually.

One thing that still bothers me with MSFS is that the mouse pointer don’t quite line up in VR… Does anybody know of a fix for this?

They have greatly improved the lighting since SU3. The night lighting is fairly realistic now. I haven’t played on a PC but for kicks I went to the MS forum and saw others with similar complaints but no solutions that matched. One was to close an eye. The other surmised that the problem is airplane-specific, as in: some are worse than others. Even in 2D, I sometimes struggle with selecting clickables.

Ah! I suspected this, but thought maybe I was imagining things.

@smokinhole is right on both accounts:

  • it is plane specific
  • closing one eye helps

VR is still an afterthought for many developers after all these years. We are a niche in a niche :vr:

Nonetheless, for me MSFS in VR is the best flightsimming I have ever experienced.
