MSFS 2024

Then I expressed myself badly, or you read it wrong

The FC(FIFA) update cycle happens every year.
To have a flightsim of this magnitude update in 4 years is much, much, better, IMO.

There’s a lot of new content in MSFS2024, like the whole career thing and missions, that we haven’t seen before.
Sure, a lot is carried over from 2020, but much of that was updated for free, until now…

Whenever I can see such a facial expression on a YT video thumbnail, it guarantees a “no view” from my side

@Clutch normally I am right in with this sentiment. This though, if we were to call it an update, would be way past what was promised us with MSFS2020. So I am all in for the paid update and calling it a “new” sim because for me, mainly due to the missions (career), it WILL be a new sim. Now, if I was not interested in any of the career stuff, I too may not feel the need to buy. All I will lose will be access to the new aircraft and the updated scenery generation. So, if I really was in that player category, they’ve promised to continue updating MSFS2020 for a bit longer. It’s a win for everyone as I see it.

I am a committed “NO VIEW” for ANY face on a thumbnail. It screams “influencer” and I’d sooner buy a pager from Israel than give any of those bottom-dwellers a second of my precious time.

So who goes with the Aviator Edition?

Not me. But I did just buy the Premium Deluxe. I’ll pay for it by dumbing down my Gamepass Ultimate subscription.

Btw what is the pre-order good for? I can’t see any sign of a discount for instance.

Edit: Here it goes

Free Gift With All Pre-Orders

If you pre-order ahead of the November 19th 2024 release, you will get a free copy of the De Haviland Canada CL-415 to fly right now in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020.

Well here is a little peek at how secretive MS/Asobo are, even to their own developers:

From Miltech’s Discord. Everything from here on is a quote unless in ():

@everyone

MILTECH SIMULATIONS AND FS2024
** “There is a good reason for the delays…” “Something big is coming soon…” **

(First the C-17)

Now we can finally comment on it!
Introducing the Microsoft-Miltech Simulations C17 Globemaster III for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Premium Deluxe Edition! For the past 8 months we have been secretly working on that has become by far the most ambitious project we have embarked on. The C17 Globemaster III is most versatile cargo aircraft to enter the airlift force, and a key logistical assets for many airforces around the globe. We had the opportunity to create this incredible aircraft for the upcoming MSFS2024 and I must say – we are incredibly proud of the result. This is by far the BEST product we have ever created. I know you will have many questions, so I will answer a few here. Bare in mind, this is very much still an active development and we are still under NDA, so there are questions we cannot respond to at this time.

Will it be free?: It will be included with the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Premium Deluxe package at no additional cost. Other paths to acquiring the aircraft are up to Microsoft to decide.
How complex the simulation is?: There is a very good level of depth. As you may understand, this being an aircraft in actively military service, there are areas where classification does not allow a deeper simulation. However, all displays and systems are very well represented.
• **Can it carry cargo?: **Yes, several cargo load options are possible, including various types of military vehicles, presidential limos, helicopter fuselages, pallets, etc.
SOUNDS?: 100% recorded from a real C-17, and in collaboration with Echo19.
XXXXX is inaccurate on the Screenshot: This is an old image from several weeks ago. The project is not completed. The images do not represent the final product.

(And the interesting part…)

Now, with the elephant in the room out of the way… we now have to address the OTHER elephant in the room: CH47D.
If you look closely at the announcement, to the right of C17 you will find our beloved CH47D. Well, I have to inform you that unfortunately this is NOT our CH47D. In fact, we were completely unaware of it until now (Yep, working with MS for the past 8 months and zero info with regards to this announcement – information is kept confidential to minimize leaks).

Regardless of this, we continue working on our promise to provide FREE UPDATES of all our existing catalog of products, including CH47D, to MSFS2024; and will continue to leverage all the new features the platform will bring. Miltech Simulations’ CH47D will continue to be supported and updated for years to come. Nevertheless, working on the Wokka has been a great pleasure for us, and has served as testbed of technologies that will become part of many of our future offerings. We are in fact partnering with thie developer on various projects to come – however, we have no connection whatsoever with the CH47 Project.

What about U2 now?
Well, as you may imagine, C17 took a lot of resources away from U2 for a period of time. These resources are now back to work with the U2, and we are expecting significant progress in the upcoming weeks. I cannot say if this will release before or after FS2024 – but given the amount of content coming with the new sim, we may decide to reorganize our pipeline without prior notice.
We recently got information that one key feature we were missing on the U2 is properly introduced on FS24, so that’s also an important factor to consider.

And… Now what?
Time to continue working on the 5 or so aircraft we are working on… ah, and the Refueling Pro module

Although I think every 3rd party dev knew the risk. Cowan also takes a hit as he sells both a R66 and a H125. MS/Asobo’s versions will be free with the Standard edition.

Unless they improved the controls binding UI drastically, I’m going to give it a pass.
Due to the clunkyness of setting up binds, I simply gave up on 2020. It’s more fun to have a tooth pulled, than setting up controls.
In DCS its so easy to setup binds, in comparison.

I am no fan of the control setup either it’s by far the worst of any sim I’ve owned. But I’ll accept it as it is because I am only using an XBOX controller. Above all I just want each flying machine to pre-select at launch the control profile that I have assigned for it.

I am leaning towards the standard edition (as I did for MSFS2020) and allocating the money saved towards select add-ons down the road. There is no way I would find enough time to fly all the different planes in the premium deluxe or aviator edition more than once each.

Falcon BMS takes that cake for me. What a nightmare.

In fact I don’t mind the MSFS one, especially since it allows binding for multiple planes. DCS drives me insane with all planes having separate bindings.

MSFS2020 is the only control setup in a sim where I had to find a video on how to use it. Falcon BMS was easy I thought but they have recently had to change it to be similar to DCS so you can map different aircraft controls.

See, for me, BMS is the best. It is super fast to both assign and to recall a button or combo. And the ability to edit the control files with a text editor, especially for DX shifting is a plus. It does, however, suffer from the same problem as MSFS in that I must remember to switch profiles when I switch airplanes.

Just shows the difficulty optimizing for users with opposite needs.

For anyone who still thinks that 2024 is nothing more than a cash grab by MS/Asobo…

I will be going with the Premium Deluxe version. There isn’t much point in me buying the Aviator’s edition as I already own most of the MS published aircraft.

I had no idea. It is such a cosmic leap from not just MSFS, but any sim ever made.

It doesn’t happen often that my jaw drops during a video game first look video, but this is damn impressive.

( Even though it might be a buggy mess on release. )

Is that like when the title of an article or video begins with a question, the answer is automatically no? Such as, “Will strawberry milkshakes cure colorectal cancer?”
