As a flight simulator specialist- there shouldn’t be any problem in making the Multi-Player compatible.
The world is one and the same- and by that I mean the world’s physical properties. So, coordinates, gravity, air density, weather and structure is identical.
The problems start when we look a bit more into the “micro”. With such a large difference in details ( In the post I linked above your post you can see the two different versions of the Grand Canyon ) that makes it impossible to work correctly in Multi-Player as one in MSFS2020 would avoid the rocky formations they see while the player with MSFS2024 would avoid those they see while observing the MSFS2020 players passing through the scenery.
Ultimately the simplest solution always end up being segmenting the Multi-Player.
MSFS2020 isn’t multiplayer compatible with ITSELF! How can we expect it to play nice with MSFS2024? Just last night I was practicing the new CL415 (very cool!). A 777 was following me around Honolulu as I practiced landing on water and refilling the water tanks. But of course it wasn’t a 777 (they don’t generally hover). It was an Ornithopter! I only knew that because I had player tags turned on.
Replying to below
The misplaced models in multiplayer are often MS/Asobo models. I don’t think this has anything to do with 3rd parties. It’s just low-hanging fruit that Asobo doesn’t seem able to pick.
The lack of models for MP bothers me as well. When the F-35 was released there were suddenly loads of Cessnas (IIRC) hovering around near airports.
I think MS should force 3rd parties to provide (low poly) models for MP.
Then you will still have the problem with modded planes (like when a few of us Mudspikers soared together, which was fun. But we needed to have the same version of the glider mods installed or we would see King Airs circling around in thermals), but then you could at least force a modded plane to appear as a plane of the same class. I wouldn’t mind a DG500 mod looking like a DG1000 or LS4 to others, and I wouldn’t mind a Saab Draken looking like a F-16 in a pinch (although that hurts), but I surely do mind supersonic Cessnas or hovering 777s.
That was one of the number of deal breakers for me with 2020. Even with decent speeds here in Tokyo the streaming quality of the textures just wasn’t goo enough. I missed the clarity and detail of the DCS maps.
Arguably it will be compatible with FS2020, same as FS2020 is compatible with XP11, XP12, P3D, and FSX.
Not exactly straight out of the box, but all of these sims are able to play together through VATSIM.
Agreed 100% that it would be nice to have native cross-platform compatibility and model matching, but there is absolutely a way to do it through third party clients.
That’ll be dev-specific. I don’t think Aerosoft have said too much about porting to 2024, even for the just-released Frankfurt.
In theory the assets themselves should port fairly easily, but that doesn’t mean that devs won’t hold their products hostage behind a paywall to get them into the newer sim. I don’t think any of the companies outside of the official partners even have the SDK yet so it’s been difficult for them to come out with a concrete plan.
Do you have any issues starting the game? Mine is stuck on the loading screen (with the progress bar around 1/3 of the way). Also I can’t get into the Tech Alpha forum - it says it’s private, but I’m signed in with the same account used for joining the alpha.
