@PaulRix Question for you! Is there something comparable to the FlyJSim 737-200 or the 727adv series for MSFS2020? I’ve been flying in the citation for a bit with the modern FMC and glass displays. And well that just doesn’t scratch my itch! Especially on my display, it’s a bit hard to read due to lack of brightness of the MFD’s and the reduced render scale. I think those classics would scratch a itch I can’t get scratched currently and it’s a shame! I like my steam gauges!
Unfortunately, not yet. I guess Asobo thought that the majority of people want to fly with glass cockpits. We are going to have to wait for the 3rd party devs to give us something with a little more character.
I’ll buy a 1960s-1980s V-tail Bonanza with tip tanks in a heartbeat. No glass cockpit.
Or a Skymaster…

MSFS Mobile Companion App
MSFS Mobile Companion App is a tool that allows you to control essential aircraft instruments such as NAV/COM frequencies, autopilot, or lights using almost any mobile device. The MSFS Mobile Companion App is free to use.
MSFS Mobile Companion App features:
- Moving Map (Open Street Maps).
- NAV 1/2 frequency and OBS 1/2 selection.
- ADF frequency and ADF card selection.
- COM 1/2 and transponder selection.
- Autopilot with altitude, vertical speed, and airspeed settings.
- Gyro drift and altimeter pressure settings.
- Light controls.
- Pitot heat and deicing controls.
- Landing ratings (vertical speed at touchdown).
- Simulation rate controls.
I’d love an MD-80 in MSFS, it would fit so well. Too many of the stock aircraft use glass, and making the 172 analog an up-sell was mean.
The Citation (especially in VR, tomorrow is the big day!) is also very hard to read, due to just general small labels and fonts in the cockpit.
I have just flown a couple of legs in the CJ4 for the Christmas trek. I can see it won’t be great in VR. I can barely read the display text on my 1080p monitor (32 in tv). There is a lot to be said for analog instruments, especially in a multi engine aircraft. It also guzzles fuel like it’s big brother.
The bus and the 78x work really well in VR, as does the TBM, 152 etc, so I think it’s just real-life modelling and that Citation pilots have superior eyes and hair.
I really hope they fix the C4J fuel issue in the ‘Sim Update 2’ patch tomorrow. The backup plan is that people have started to fiddle with the Citation configs pretty heavily (apart from the WT full mod):
I think a lot of the mods/patches will break tomorrow (ideally start with a clean /Community folder when updating), so probably worth waiting now.
Anything listed as ‘Sim Update 2’ in the below is meant to be added or fixed tomorrow:
Yeah, this kinda pissed me off a bit. It felt like they copy and pasted the cockpit avionics to all the machines out of laziness and not because it was a good choice.
Yep, this is another one of the issues for me though, I do not know how much modders can do to fix that.
There‘s a button binding for VR-Zoom. Which basically moves your virtual head closer to the panels where your mouse is aimed at. For as long as you press it.
On my mouse (Logitech m705) I map
Mouse4 to VR-Zoom
Mouse5 to enable/disable the menu icon-bar
The CJ4 needs it, as you suspected.
I hope we get a real Bonanza soon.

Awesome…thanks for the link.

No idea how usefull they are, but the Open XR stuff at 12.00 minutes was new to me.Got it installed now, and the openXR demo works. Just waiting for MSFS to download now
I am not convinced that switching OpenXR to „latest preview“ does anything but add potential instability. Looks to me like people just flick it because it‘s there.
Is there anybody that actually knows what exactly happens when enabling that switch?
If not, I‘ll be happily using the defaults.
Talking about defaults:
I use a Rift S and have no software installed except the Oculus one.
Is that correct? Can/should I install something else? I guess I have SteamVR because I have Steam, but I have no clue what is or isn’t used and how to tweak it.
And another question, not sure if bug or not.
If I recenter the view pressing the space bar, rhe view gets obstructed as if a black curtain had been drawn over the screen.
If I center to what the Oculus software thinks is the center then it works fine.
I could not figure out how to force an update in the Oculus software. It seems to think it is the most recent one.
Working title mods all updated for the new version of MSFS
- The CJ4 is updated to v0.8.2 (zip)
- The G3000 is updated to v0.3.3a (zip)
- The G1000 is updated to v0.3.3 (zip)
- The G3X preview is updated to v0.1.0-dev4 (zip)
Also:
Carenado got a msfs2020 40% sale! Are they any good?
If you are familiar with Carenado’s products for other sims then I’d say their MSFS aircraft are similar. They look great, fly well enough but are light when it comes to systems modeling. The difference is that right now they are a step up from the default aircraft in the sim. If you like steam gauges then the Mooney is worth picking up imho.
Don’t forget the “Working Title” mods. They are great! And free, as in you do not need to pay money. All mods need a bit of a time investment. But these devs are top notch. Very quick to update to new MSFS versions.
