Wait
so you can connect to some random AI plane?
That’s cool and hilarious at the same time.

AI? I didn’t post video with other poor guy only because not to make fun of him. he literally tried to shake me off

Maybe I misunderstood the video because I watched it without sound and on my phone.

Is that a player plane?

no it’s AI, but same way (well, almost - program can’t see players planes because of SimConnect bug but see pilots inside) glider can be attached to real player

I hope this version of the tool and the 0.6 version of the DG808S get released soon.

Can’t wait to try soaring in MSFS2020 VR.

You can already if you tweak some files:

I know, I admit that I am lazy and kinda want it easy and not mess with it myself.

Well I guess I know what I’ll be flying this weekend when I get home. :sunglasses:

Is impressive the quality of these freeware airports/airfields when comparing with many (not so good) paywares for fsx/p3d. The lighting of the engine also help a bit, but the textures and small details are pretty good.

Kinetic Assistant v0.5 update
Now you can attach your glider (or something else maybe?) to another AI or multiplayer aircraft and get into the air. No rope visualization yet.
Thermals code improved, still not part of the weather system but works fine in case you follow known pre-defined route.

That looks fantastic! I got a ride in a Waco in Louisville a few years ago.

That thing is a monster!

Even though I swore to never buy another Carenado aircraft again without reading 25 positive reviews, I couldn’t help myself with the YMF-5 at $15. And after and hour checking out the area around Aspen in the Waco, it’s mostly good. Due to the late hour, I’m just going to cut right to the chase.

Good

  • It’s beautiful of course, inside and out. In VR there are a couple of tiny things that could be better finished, but overall it’s typical Carendao art excellence. Interior 7/10 Exterior 9/10
  • The sound set is fitting of the aircraft, although the radial seems a bit more willing to rev than what you find in a Beaver or a Stearman. This might also be because it’s a fixed pitch prop. 8/10
  • The FM, while far from perfect, has some redeeming traits, like how you need to input quite a bit of rudder to keep the ball centered in turns, and a good chunk of right rudder during climbs. Pitch changes feel pretty honest and airspeeds seem right-on for climbing, descending, and landing. It’s not too difficult to taxi. 6/10

Could be better

  • The FM has a couple really questionable behaviors, although neither are deal breakers IMO. While the rudder seems well tuned during flight, during takeoff roll, as soon as the tailwheel lifts, you are heading off the runway, no matter how gentle you are with the throttle or how much anticipatory rudder is input before tail lift. What I didn’t try was a three-point takeoff, instead of lifting the tail. Similar to how the book says takeoff in a Jug. I went 3 for 4 on takeoffs, the first one having made my children fatherless. See what you think.
  • I tried both approach to landing and accelerated stalls, but had a really hard time getting a break. It’s like the horizontal stabilizers run out of authority right at stall and you can’t pull the stick back far enough to get it past the critical angle of attack. You don’t really need much rudder to keep it level either. It just wants to lay there with the horn going off. Same with accelerated stalls, but you can get half a rotation if you hold full rudder and full aft stick for about 10 seconds. The thing just wants to keep flying. Again, not sure if this is by design or something that needs to be sorted out. Would appreciate your input.

As it is, the YMF-5 is an absolutely wonderful sightseeing aircraft. It has all the panache when you pull up to the fuel pump at Aspen. Makes those Falcon and Gulfstream owners envious :star_struck: And you never looked so good in $489,000.

FOLLOW-UP: I found out how to have a less dramatic takeoff. Basically, you want to hold back pressure to prevent the tail from coming up until just before it wants to fly off, contrary to what you see on YouTube of the real aircraft. Those videos show that the YMF-5 has pretty much a normal taildragger takeoff with the tail up during acceleration.
