I might pick it up, but to me this was a strange choice from Asobo because there is already a well received ’Solo’ that has been available since late last year (so it is hardly a first of it’s kind). The VGP Power Solo is a blast to fly.
I heard the context of this one was that it was meant to be free, but the licensing from the manufacturer got complicated, so the $10 is largely about that. They’re using it to shake-down how to do DLC from their side, to see what they response is like. It was an asset they had internally that wasn’t done before launch, so they went back and did this. For VR VFR it must be nice, but I think I’m going to hang on for the Bell 46G which is due in May.
The Bell 47 now has a page on the internet, so here it is:
Launch date tomorrow apparently…
This morning I noticed Carenado’s Seneca in MSFS marketplace. I am tempted
as I know what to expect (and what not) from them.
Though the price tag is a bit high to be honest… (30 EUR if I recall correctly).
I can see this being a plane that people who don’t know how to fly could use to take a look around in the SIM while they get acclimated
I could also see this as a plane I would use to show somebody the sim, especially in VR without freaking them out with complex instrumentation.
So, I picked it up…for $10 you can’t go wrong really. Compared to the VGP Power Solo, it has a less powerful motor, the flight model is a little less stable (actually I like that), graphically it is better, instrumentation is crude to say the least. There are also no flaps (although it doesn’t seem to need them)… So yes, the same basic airplane, and yet not the same. I’ll have fun with it. ![]()
The FlyInside Bell 47 has been released for MSFS.
Looks pretty good, although at $35 I think I will wait bit. I have been on a bit of a spending spree lately and probably should exercise a little bit of self control
They said thay’d bring it also to FlyInside Flight Sim as a free update. I will check it there.
I have never been into helis but this one is an icon indeed.
A more and more common problem. This helis price is of course going to feel a bit steep when there is a free heli out there which is probably at least as nice.
Whut’ in the…
Sigh
Photogrammetry is a bit odd down low, but here’s someone that just bought the Bell and it looks quite nice.
EDIT: I must add if you’d have shown me this video about 3 years ago as something a PC sim could do I’d have laughed out loud. Crazy how far we’ve come really…
At one time I was convinced that this was as good as it was ever going to be…
Which just proves that being stupidly wrong, isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
Was just talking to some people earlier today about this.
So I lasted a few hours at least… ![]()
I have to say, FlyInside have done a great job with this one. It is a very hands on, unstable devil of a contraption that requires a delicate yet firm hand to fly safely. Left to it’s own devices, this helicopter does it’s absolute best to kill you. It is very easy to get yourself into POI (Pilot Induced Oscillation) which very quickly increases in magnitude. In VR it is almost scary.
Somewhere in the Okavango Delta, Botswana…
The bubble canopy gives an excellent view. The instrument cluster is pretty basic, but you won’t have time to give it more than a quick glance once the fun begins.
Looking up and over my right shoulder you get a clear view of the rotorhead…looks kind of flimsy, so lets not dwell on it too much.
Nice 3D modeling of the Lycoming engine…
Airborne and kind of in control…
Landing on the raised landing pads is quite a challenge…
A couple of tries later, I manage a fairly stable approach, and manage to touch down safely.
This is a very different experience from the H135, which is far more stable. It’s fun and if you are up for a challenge then I recommend it. Evidently you can abuse it enough to kill the engine, but I haven’t managed that yet.
Have you tried autorotation yet?
And how does the flight model compare to the great ones like the DCS Huey?
I haven’t flown the DCS Huey in awhile. I will say this one got away from me more times than I care to admit. I haven’t tried auto-rotation yet, but I’ll give it a go later tonight. The Huey is a different animal and much more refined (what a difference 10 or so years made back then). I’m not a real world helo pilot, but it seems like the flight model is pretty good.
Got my CPL-A ME IR certificate and ratings, in one looking just like that! ![]()
In fact, I did my entire Multi Engine program in one…
