MSFS - Add-ons and Releases thread

I can see people being upset though because spending $50+ on a new airplane can be a big chunk of change to blow on something that is just for your own entertainment, as opposed to something that is enjoyed by you and your significant other, kids etc. If it doesn’t work then that can be a huge disappointment, even if you know the issue will eventually be addressed.

As it’s the first time out on the Microsoft Marketplace Store for PMDG, I wonder what the odds are it being a DRM issue? Signing it for the Xbox and the store is one of the last steps, and it looks like perhaps after that happened the QA look-see wasn’t that extensive (as in it looks ok, just not flown), in that the didn’t expect any issues?

If this was my first major purchase of something complex on that platform I’d be disappointed for sure. Essentially all the dials are not showing values and the controls don’t move - it is still ‘flyable’ but only barely.

That was my first thought when I saw the bit about instruments, etc, that don’t work.

The most interesting part is to see their support at work now. There was a tweet to inform customers. I like that.

Let’s see how long it takes them to resolve it.

for me this is the most important part, or any communication from any devs in general

like I searched for Carenado updates of their MSFS modules and was able to find it only on their website (at least somewhere), but there are devs where one cant find any update history at all or any messages from the devs

IndiaFoxtEcho T-45C Goshawk updated (from their FB page)

T-45C VERSION 1.2.1
We have just released a new version of the T-45 which should fix the HUD visibility problem caused by SU7 and bring other improvements too.

Speaking of the HUD, while the change in the HUD shader broke a number of add-ons, we have to say that we are much happier now as the sim finally supports collimation in a proper way (and in a much neater way than FSX and P3D).

Also, this new version includes some basic (and not very realistic) carrier features support (originally tought for the F-35)- these are meant to work with our imminent USS Gerarld Ford CVN-78 model (which will come with a T-45C Carrier Qualification variant) - the way it works is as follows: if you land on ANY surface with the hook down, the aircraft will decelerate abrubtly simulating an arrested landing, while extending the launch bar and advancing the throttle above 80% will generate a quick acceleration, simulating a catapult launch. THESE WILL WORK ON ANY SURFACE - not very realistic… but better than nothing.

We planned to add wire engagement detection, jet blast deflectors animation and some basic LSO radio communications… but given the feedback we have received it seemed very urgent to release the HUD patch, so these will come at a later date.

Update should be already available on SimMarket, and will be available shortly on Orbx and Milviz. Microsoft is likely to take a couple of weeks to get this released (hopefully less than that…but it is better to be realistic):

VERSION 1.2.1 - SU7 compatibility fix and other minor improvements:

  • Collimated HUD as per Sim Update 7
  • IFF knob now correctly sets transponder state (OFF-STBY-NORM)
  • Removed custom high-G sound effects
  • Radio volume knobs now work
  • Minimum speed displayed on the HUD is now correctly 50kts
  • Fixed HUD declutter conditions for heading caret
  • Added launch bar and tailhook code for USS Gerald Ford and other carriers*
  • Light test switch does not illuminate AOA indexer lights anymore
  • Improved roll rate and pitch authority
  • Draft implementation of VR stick handling (not granted to work)
  • Added SU7 low altitude dust effect
  • code works as follows:
If launch bar is deployed and throttle is above 80%, a launch force will be generated (on any surface)
If tailhook is deployed, an arresting force will be generated upon touchdown (on any surface)

That SSW F104 have the hud working? because in the videos it looks not…

PMDG DC-6 for Xbox pulled from store. Full story here -

The TL:DR is that it worked in testing but they don’t know why it doesn’t work now. They are sorry so will try to sort it out ASAP.

After all things sorted out and fixed, I also can imagine the nightmare the PMDG will suffer with DC-6 “problems” were the root of the problem is between the chair and the keyboard. Saying that because imho the common classic mainstream xbox user not fits well the requirements of the PMDG DC6…

Frankly, I think that may end up being beneficial to all.

If the full fidelity guys have a paradigm shift about wanting to make their products more approachable to a wider audience, thats not a bad thing.

We will still get to count the rivets as that’s their wheelhouse, but we might start getting beginner friendly / user friendly features too.

someone have it, how precise tailhook simulation? our F/A with collision detection already

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Many times because money talks more loud and because were is the higher voted wins even if is not correct, we sometimes loose some types of products or fidelity or quality. These kind of situations happens many times in gaming industry and not only that, even in outside pc life. With some type of products disapeared on the market to only have the cheap quality copies that maiority of people prefer because is cheaper and when you want and prefer to pay a bit more and have a better product, you can’t because not anymore on sale.
So, in the first view is cool to see some type of companies going to bigger audience butin a long run sometimes this creates some problems than benefits. Low quality with cheaper prices companies always exist, but seeing luxury companies that fall into this area is nota good sign for me.
As such that we already suffered from it, and its exactly why we not had the DC6 on xp11. It was not a technical issue, it was because it not sells well there.

They don’t have a keyboard, it works with an Xbox controller.

Hmm, given that simple mistake, I’m not sure you’re smart enough for flight sims. Sorry to be blunt, but once we start letting just anyone in then it ruins things for us geniuses. Thanks for your understanding…

Sad that you not understand that “problem between the chair and the keyboard” is a classic metaphoric expression many times used by IT guys describing were is the real problem of an IT issue… The same that someone that read it should be smart enough to read between the lines and make the transposition of the expression to the example. Not to mention that not everyone are in a chair, many using an xbox are in the living room seat on a sofa…

Ok, I’ll bite…

@fearlessfrog, making his living as a dog daycare assistant, don’t know much about IT. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

See that :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: btw? Means I was joking.

I think, IMHO, that it was implied that your opinion wasn’t so humble, @stavka.

I think we should be careful with labeling console users as less capable to learn, or meet the requirements of being able to use complex aircraft.
I hope console users develop a craving for complex sims and aircraft! That would really secure the future of our hobby. :+1:

Absolutely. I need to dumb down my jokes a bit more I think.

Gate-keeping and elitism in flight sims is as old as time, but when I see it it still annoys me. I should just ignore it, but it’s usually good for some laughs anyway. All niches have it, it makes people feel special and is just human nature.

Apologies if I confused you @stavka - I was trying to not so subtly tell you that I disagree with your premise, which was fine - all good.

When you see me doing that, just assume I’m right.

i’m not gatekeeper neither elitist, only watching what reality is, is stupid and naif thinking that a common xbox user have exactly the same kind of tastes as common pc users. All flights sims can even goes to nintendo and call them game, i really don’t care.

As such that millions of dollars on market studies for years ruled that for tons of years consoles and flight sims not match well because for many is boring type of game!

About my expression about “common classic xbox users” i’m not saying that they are dumb or have lack of understanding the problem is the lack of taste and many times the lack of will to read a 500 pags manuals to learn an aircraft. And its true! ofc always exist exceptions but that not rules and impose the common market and common behavior.
