Maybe an installer bug? I have a custom path for the content location (D:/MSFS etc), as the default one puts it deep down in %appdata% and is subject to a 255 char limit (yes, even in 2021).

I keep running into that at work when I need to build a new Qt version and I try to do an ‘out of source’ build. The paths get a bunch of …/…/…/…/…/ bits thrown in and about 3 hours into the build, the Chromium code included with QtWebEngine fails. Sometimes I hate Windows

Chromium builds are good to warm up a room on a cold winters day. 
You can enable long paths, although some apps still resist - incantations here:

Adobe Acrobat is a really reliable call generator in this regard. Adds nicely to the monthly revenue stream for those MSPs managing financials. “Sincere congratulations completing your Harvard MBA. You still have too many characters in your fund’s path to open that PDF with Acrobat.”

I opted into the Beta just for the VR fix…it was driving me crazy. I’m glad to say it solved the problem. I can see that I’ll probably stay on the Beta version going forward (as I do with DCS).

I’m a MSFS noob. I feel rather lost in its menu system and I need more time with it to feel comfortable, so I feel that I should stay away from the beta… But maybe beta is the best option after all.
I must be blind… I can find the instructions to join the Steam beta, but not the MS store version. Help!
Do you have the Xbox Insider Hub installed? In my case, as a European, I had to change temporarily the regional settings to US for the app to appear in my MS Store.
After installing that, I reverted to my usual regional settings and so far so guuud

So, I got in on the beta. Updated MSFS in the MS store, when checking for updates and then in the content manager…
Now the VR menu works, but I still can’t get back to internal view, after selecting external view, in the menu. Please forgive my ignorance if there’s something I’ve missed. I haven’t used MSFS that much.
How did you get the external view - the toolbar ‘Camera’? It should have a cockpit tab (as well as External / Showcase). If you did it view button etc, then check your bindings in case the beta moved something (you can do Options / Controls / and reset if stuck).

Yes. Problem is that when I’m in external view, I can’t get the toolbar to show up again…
