MSFS Updates/Patches

Anyone has an impression that the lighting after SU5 is different? Like ‘flat’ if you see what I mean? Somehow I feel that the sim lighting was considerably better before SU5.

Perhaps a component of the price the PC version had to pay for performance optimisation and Xbox release?

Dunno…

Could this be the same issue? If so, there’s a fix.

Thanks @Troll
I will test it this evening.
It may be part of the problem though the issue is probably more complex. I am just reading some other fora about the visual changes after SU5.

Not the end of the world obviously :grinning: Asobo even aknowledged they knew and were collecting information.

I think I’m just going to play DCS until this stuff is sorted and the hotfixes included in the download.

MSFS doesn’t appear to let you delay updates either so if I’ve got an hour to fly, it isn’t feasible to spend that time updating.

An especially nasty quirk of the sim when combined with it’s “won’t know till you launch it” built in updater.

RELEASE NOTES 1.18.15.0

If you are playing on PC, some packages in your community folder may not have been updated and, as a result, may have an unexpected impact on the title’s performance and behavior.
Please move your community package(s) to another folder before relaunching the title if you suffer from stability issues or long loading times.

  • Fixed ground level of detail (low resolution) when flying at airliner altitudes
  • Fixed “washed out / oil painted” clouds and the overall luminosity under cloud coverage
  • Fixed missing volumetric lights
  • Fixed abnormal temperature spikes over airports when the Metar data was not updating often enough
  • Aligned pressure altitude simvar and pitot static altitude calculations to prevent wrong altitude information for external Live ATC services
  • GPU stats are now displayed in the debug window when the dev mode is activated on PC
  • Disabled aggressive compilation optimization for WASM (signed-zeroes, NoInf and NoNaN but keep fast-math)

Known Issue

  • In-sim ATC service radar can still report incorrect altitude (fix expected in world Update 6)

It only took 36hrs, including a complete reinstall, to patch this game. What a hassle…

And for me I wasted an hour last night trying to get the hot fix…. Only to discover that it had updated automatically, so there really was no new update to download.

Still, after the hot fix, I was able to fly from London City, up the Thames, past Heathrow, Windsor Castle and land at White Waltham…in SMOOTH VR. There were a few micro stutters, but that was from the photogrammetry loading on my mediocre internet (by today’s standards). It was fantastic. Prior to this update I stayed well away from London unless I was testing frame rates.

My issue with this is that I thought the Community folder is for Community mods. I can understand removing those. But when Orbx likes to dump it’s stuff there too, well it doesn’t seem like Orbx is working as a partner with Microsoft. Perhaps it’s my fault, and I need to rethink that strategy. Perhaps I need to place Orbx mods in their own folder. But that goes back to the consumer having to make uniformed decisions, which sounds unorganized.

Could the issue be that they are all for, and very supportive to, add ons that are sold through their Marketplace…? Others, not so much.
MSFS greatness have always been about modability. I think it’s a bad idea if they try to move away from this.

Honestly, where Orbx wants to dump its files is kind of a non-issue for me, as I simply let their stuff be dumped into the community folder, and then immediately move them to where I prefer them to be, using addon-Linker.

v0.3.0 of the G1000NXi is launching in the Marketplace!

Matt (nishmaster) [Z-5] — Today at 11:29 AM

@everyone We are excited to announce v0.3.0 of the G1000NXi is launching in the Marketplace! Featuring a number of new features, such as correct hold entries, user waypoint and airway import from the world map, additional persistent settings, altitude alerter, and more. We also have a long list of bug fixes, including potential CTD solutions as well as an important fix for freezes with VNAV calculations.

As always, this is an Early Access Opt-In Beta, so there may be bugs or missing features! Please give us feedback and reports in #nxi-early-access. Thanks!

Head to the sim Marketplace to grab the NXi, or go to Content Manager to download the update. You can find the release notes here: Working Title /NXI - v0.3.0

I am back to the stock G1000 tbh.

The work done on the new G1000 nxi is fantastic but unfortunately for my style of flying it sports functionality I do not use and lacks functionality that I need :grinning: (ADF, properly working direct-to, MFD pages missing nearest, waypoints…).

I am watching closely though…

MICROSOFT FLIGHT SIMULATOR CELEBRATES GAMESCOM WITH MAJOR UPDATES

Posted by: Microsoft Flight Simulator Team

Today during the gamescom 2021 Xbox Stream, we were proud to announce several exciting updates coming to Microsoft Flight Simulator over the next few months to PC and Xbox Series X|S.

WORLD UPDATE VI

Our latest World Update celebrates the region of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. New aerial imagery, high-resolution elevation maps and several brand-new 3D cities in Germany, Basel in Switzerland, Graz and Vienna in Austria are drastically enhancing the visuals of these three countries and the beautiful mountain-ranges of the Alps. The team has also hand-crafted about 100 famous locations (points of interest, or POIs) and several airports like Lübeck, Stuttgart, Klagenfurt and St. Gallen. The update also includes new discovery flights, landing challenges and bush trips that take simmers across this beautiful region of our planet. World Update VI will be available for download in the in-sim marketplace free-of-charge on September 7th.

LOCAL LEGEND I: JUNKERS JU-52

The team is also proud to announce a new series of releases called “Local Legends” that will frequently coincide with World Updates. These aircrafts are famous in the region of the world update, but often are not as well known to a worldwide audience. For World Update VI, we chose a famous German plane from 1930 called the Junkers JU-52.

In Germany, the Junkers JU-52 is lovingly called “Tante JU” or “Aunt JU.” The team has gone to great lengths to recreate the plane as authentically and accurately as possible. We scanned the entire plane with a high-resolution digital scanner to achieve an extremely high level of detail and accuracy. We were fortunate to have the support of Bernd Junkers, the grandson of the original designer, Hugo Junkers, and also worked with an organization that preserves one of the last surviving examples of this famous plane. To ensure complete accuracy, we consulted with one of the few pilots who flew one of the last Junkers JU-52. The Junkers JU-52 will be available in the simulator on September 7th for $14.99.

VOLOCOPTER

While the “Local Legends” series celebrates the history of aviation, Microsoft Flight Simulator is also working with organizations around the world that are shaping the future of aviation. We have partnered with Volocopter, a fascinating German company creating

one of the most exciting new aircraft in the world, an eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing) air taxi for urban flights called “VoloCity”. In collaboration with the team at Volocopter, we are integrating their electric air taxis and incorporating Volocopter’s vision for urban air mobility city operations into Microsoft Flight Simulator. The VoloCity air taxi represents our first step toward the introduction of one of the widely-requested aircraft – helicopters! The VoloCity air taxi will release in November of this year.

RENO AIR RACE

Finally, we are excited to announce our partnership with RARA (the Reno Air Racing Association) to bring the famous STIHL National Championship Air Races, the world’s fastest motorsport, to Microsoft Flight Simulator. Many of the planes can fly up to 500 mph at an altitude between 50 ft and 250 ft above ground. The Reno Air Race represents the first major expansion for Microsoft Flight Simulator. Simmers will now be able to race against their friends or pilots from around the world with the addition of competitive multiplayer to the sim. The Reno Air Race expansion pack will be available this Fall.

Yay, no more mod needed for Stuttgart airport!
The Ju-52 also looks cool. Might get that one.

Was the world update always supposed to release in September? Or did they push it back recently?
