MSFS Updates/Patches

Awesome! It’s always such a dance when the updates are released…and of course they are not optional.

For me the update went really smooth.
Just haven’t had rhe time to try it yet.

Yeah…that isn’t an ideal system.

Ah geez this thing.

I run it, it closes down telling me to update in the microsoft store. I ask that about updates, it tells me it’s all up to date. Nope. Well F it, I’ll go bomb some fools in DCS.

Man, I was in the alpha\beta and that store thing was always a fiasco. When fs2020 released, I just went with steam. A lot less headache.

One year ago my train of thought was “why complicate things by involving a third party?”

Today I know you’re right. Steam is one app with one login and it usually just works.

With MS you get these apps:

  • Microsoft Store for Windows
  • Xbox App for Windows
  • Xbox Console Companion App for Windows
  • Xbox One Smartglass App for Windows
  • Xbox Insider Hub App for Windows
  • Xbox Game Bar App for Windows
  • Gamepass App for mobile
  • Xbox App for mobile
  • Xbox Family App for mobile
  • Microsoft Family Safety App for mobile

I’m a bit lost. Which app to use when is just trial and error for me. And we did not even talk about accounts yet.

Try logging out of the store and logging back in. That worked for me…

Oh the hoops we’ll jump through. PC gaming, never change.

Turns out I had to install the latest and greatest Xbox companion app. Because Microsoft wants not one but three store apps on your PC. Yeah.

Usually you’d be correct but Steam with MSFS is still not perfect.

(FWIW, I have the Steam version and my update to the most recent update went smoothly.)

However, MSFS only uses Steam for a small portion of the update. For SU6, I think it was something less than 300MB. For the majority of the update, however, it updates from within the game itself, for which you have to have an XBL account.

It’s exactly the same for the MS store version.

Annnnnnnnd… Its out!

Just adding a little comedy or disbelief to the latest PC patch, posted above from HiFlyer, lol…

MSFS has released another patch for PC folks, so remember the dance. 1st update your MS store, then start the game, update game. Then go in game and update programs and mods in that. THEN hope it works since it goes back and forth between PC gamers on if it will. IE: every other patch released causes CTD and working fine cycle for me, and yet opposite for a friend of mine. lol

Just goes to show how different the process can be for different people.

I got the notice for a mandatory update, clicked yes once or twice, went to the content manager to download, and was done. I actually walked away as the program did its things.

So from my perspective, it was essentially clicking a few buttons.

Same here.

After the last patch it takes me to the MS store homepage!

No updates available and in the end had to DL the XBox app to get it moving.

On this latest patch it looked like the XBox app and Store were fighting over the download.

Sigh…updating now. It wasn’t really a convenient time to do it, but I’d rather have the simulator ready to go when I next have time to fly.

I just wish it was like DCS, where you can opt out if you’d rather fly on a given night. I really like it how I can leave DCS for a month or two and pick up a quick flight when I get a moment, then get the updates sorted when it suits me.

I have the same problem. Do I have to uninstall and install the XBOX app to get MSFS working? I am at loss right now.

Do you have the Xbox app from the MS Store or the Xbox companion app currently?

When in the MS Store if you click on the 3 dots - right side top and click Downloads and Updates does nothing happen?
