Muddy Jets: PvE mission of the month for Sat 16 Sep '23

Thanks Torc! I am coaching soccer this morning, but will post target coordinates and photos when I return.

Just for your info, I’ve not learned how to use DataLink yet. I have had enough to remember already for a jet I’d only ever done start-up and aerodrome circuits with.

My Mirage F1 does not even have a data link. Looking at the mission description in the (edited) first post and the loadouts, it looks like you’ll be fine as long as you can fly fast, drop bombs and fly the right altitude not to get blown up by your retarded bombs

Just thought it a good idea to make the point known, as I will be flying an aircraft fitted with the system

btw would also have liked to pack a couple of sticks to throw at any potential air interference. Larger ones would be nice, but I’d settle for a couple of wingtip jobs.

Request permission to alter my payload accordingly!?

If you’re still flying the Hornet, I’d be happy to talk you through it during start-up. It’s basically a matter of hitting “D/L” on the UFC, then “ON”, then D/L again and “ON” once more. That sets up Link-4 and Link-16 so that both datalinks will work. Then use the S/A page to see other flights and what they’re seeing. Makes the Hornet a really slick airplane for A2A engagements since the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

ETA: Wait a minute, are you referring to the built-in datalink, or the AWW-13 Datalink Pod shown in the loadout? That I know little about since I haven’t pickled a SLAM-ER or Walleye for a while, but I think those are all it’s used for.

Question: why are we carrying that pod? I don’t see any of the above ordnance in the loadouts of our flight or anyone else, right? No problem either way, just curious if I was missing something.

Thanks - see you on the apron, then!

btw @Torc - I’m struggling to read the kneeboard page with the info on it - I made a lighter one for myself with the simple brief on it and if anyone else is having issues they may like to use it…

Question since this is my first time playing online w/ y’all: Which is preferred for in-mission comms, Discord or SRS? Or is it a mix of both?

I’ll join in a Strike Eagle if it’s still available

I will be around the same time. We could do some bombing practice until everyone arives. I tend to fly the Dirt Chicken, but might switch to F1 as well when there are not enogh available.

Most prefer Discord but IIRC Johnny is only on SRS. I tend to be on both when an SRS server connection is provided.

I ehm… still need to figure out how not to be see- how not to blow myself up. Was planning on firing up a mission with infinite ammo, air start and doing some of that active pause magic to figure out a profile.
Will be on Discord but I don’t think the active pause trick is very conducive to multiplayer fun

I’ll be on at about 2023-09-16T19:00:00Z

Wife’s out so I can’t join until both kids are tucked in.

I’m good with either. Last month we used the Mudspike Discord and it worked well. But I’m running SRS on the server to support DATIS. The common channel, which I’m calling Strike is 243. We should decide on a standard though, because everyone needs to be on coms.

Is there anyone here that doesn’t know how to use SRS?

The one advantage of SRS is the overlay shows who is talking. I know the discord overlay does too, but I can’t get it to show up in VR for some reason. Certainly either is fine though.

I’ll be on both SRS and Discord

I’ve just set up SRS for the server - I would prefer to use that because using Discord means i have to have my browser open which may cause latency or connection issues. I’m happy to try Discord first if that’s what is preferred, though.

edit - I’ll be on in a few minutes after some admin

I’m getting server offline - is it?

It’s supposed to start in about 50min right?

The mission isn’t supposed to start until 20:00 GMT, but I’ll put it up at 19:00 GMT so we can test. If everyone shows up early, we can start early.
