Just FYI, PGA Tour 2k25 Demo/First Look is available to play. Download from the Steam store page.
The demo includes the back nine at TPC Scottsdale.
Graphically, it is a huge step forward from 2k23. Audio seems to have a nice upgrade as well. I understand most of us won’t jump over right away, but just thought you could check it out.
Without a doubt the prettiest course we have played so far. Seeing sheep grazing on the side of emerald green hills like that reminded me of my childhood in New Zealand.
I even managed a pair of back-to-back 40ft putts for Birdie.
The reason I include them is because they were the only shining moments of what was otherwise an abysmal two rounds of golf.
I am not even going to post my score, but I can pretty much guarantee I will be last for this event.
I played worse.
It’s a nice course to play. I struggled with the weather, which made it very difficult, particularly the second round. I found the water on a couple of occasions where the wind made recovery hard and put three consecutive balls back in the water.
It did feel like playing in Wales in February though.
The good news, I have a Czech Pilsner or an English bitter on draft to soothe our souls.
or?
Put up my two rounds last night. Super enjoyable course to play. To my great surprise…I played Round 2 with the hurricane weather just about the same as Round 1. I felt I missed some opportunities…and some I escaped with a bogey when I could have just as easily gone triple-bogey. I got lucky in some spots. Really enjoyed the necked down fairways and elevated and (unelevated?) greens. Often you’d have to take two clubs up or down to account for the elevation. Playing the wind was a LOT of fun…at some points I was aiming off an entire fairway width off center. I didn’t use a lot of shot shaping in the second round…more like just offsetting my aim and allowing the wind to carry the ball. Really cool course with great character.
Well that is a beautifully crafted 3rd party course. Them trees and lighting effects with the clouds!
R1: -5
R2: +3
R2 went MUCH better than I could’ve hoped for. Even had an eagle on the back nine. Those winds, especially the dead on headwinds, really required me to club up to get the ball moving forward. As frustrating as it appeared, it was also quite fun to really think through the elevation changes plus wind and seemingly slower green speed.
The greens were brutal. The number of shots that landed within feet of the pin only to roll off into the rough, chip shots from 6ft that ended up 20ft on the other side of the pin, or a drive that was just short of the edge and rolling back into the water…
But as Chaz said:
I love the layout. Despite my score I will be back… I might dial back the wind and slow those greens down a bit though.
We can do Torrey Pines South for the next tournament this weekend after this latest one expires…
Torrey Pines South event is posted for Feb 14th - Feb 17th…! Good luck!
Ugh… terrible first round at Torrey Pines. +2 doesn’t really reflect how bad it was. Several double bogeys…just all over the place. Swing timing just wasn’t there this evening. Gonna take a break and do Round 2 tomorrow because I just wasn’t feeling it tonight. Probably because I can’t have a beer since I’m on duty…
I have had a bit of a busy day clearing a downed tree and repairing a fence. I’m fatigued, a bit sore in the wrists and not really in the best place for concentrating on much of anything right now.
I wasn’t going to, but because I doubt I will have time for two rounds tomorrow I decided to have a go anyway. Bad decision - It was woeful from start to finish. Out of bounds twice, into the water once, managed a chip shot from one bunker into another and I didn’t even find the fairway on the 9th and 14th.
I think I should have sat this one out.
My second round was awful too… Just a mess…
Better day today. Only three over for the round.
A bit ticked off though, I was so close to an under Par round. This sums up my day:
My PC is out of action for a week or so whilst we have some work done in the house. I will be back for the next but one tourney…. Though not troubling the scorers.
It’s alright mate. I will hold onto that wooden spoon for you
I’ve put in a decent amount of time into PGA Tour 2k25 and I’ll be honest, it’s much more challenging, notably on Pro Level and up when it comes to the swing stick method. Though I believe our club uses Pro-Am (one level down). Pro (and up) takes into account whether your player has a fade (curves right) or draw (curves left), which you select at player creation and that ultimately dictates how precise you need to move the stick.
Anywho, the game’s visuals and animations are drastically improved. More content in the single player mode.
I will have to double check, but I thought Chris had set the 2K23 swing setting to Pro?
Sorry Fellas…been out of town a lot the past two weeks… I’ll get a new event up tomorrow…!
Nice review. I’m amenable to upgrading if we all agree to it… Would be great to catch it on a sale…
