I’m actually curious in the naval theater if that was much of thing? Considering how delicate the Japanese aircraft could be, I wonder how many made it how to be repaired?
I recall reading a history of the final days of WWII in the Pacific–something about the Betty bomber aircraft that was used to fly the Japanese delegation having bullet holes and patches. Of course that was a bomber-sized aircraft - probably a bit more durable.
I’m thinking there must be some type of LODs system in play. ??
There will be a LOD system of course, like in most flight sims out there in order to keep things manageable - but it’s not apparent on that very screen, these Wildcats were simply flying without decals (we were making experiments on fleet maneuvering).
It’s not that they were simplified (like in texture disappeared-simplified) it’s just that we forgot to give them actual markings.
Here:
Will this title have any form of VR support? I would love to be able to have a true gods eye view in a strategy game…
We will see in due time - it is an option in our minds right now indeed, but this is the sort of things that we will consider when we will have an actual game on our hands. For now though, first-person transitions between the different positions in the flagplot or outside on the platforms will be set from and to pre-determined, static locations. Not out of the question, but clearly not a priority for now I am afraid

Well it happened, even on the Japanese side not every plane coming back had to be a total loss
Here’s en example, on a land-based Model 32 Zero (A6M3) showing patches on the fuselage from previous painful encounters:
But the ferocity of AA fire over a task force logically made the proportion of irreparable planes at sea higher than ashore. In-game, some returned planes, including on US carriers, will have to be jettisoned for want of any practical useful value. Carriers tend to carry a lot of spare parts for the planes (even workshops to make some larger parts from scratch) in order to keep the rate of readiness as high as possible, and sometimes even spare planes. As such, you’d really need a good reason to keep a wreck around if it is not easily salvageable.
Splash the Zeroes - I say again: Splash the Zeroes!
I wished we could have kept it for April fools’ but news stuck in unexpected ways recently. We teamed up with our bros at Triassic Games for a small flying homage to Kirk Douglas, who passed away last week. You might remember him as the skipper of USS Nimitz in the Final Countdown. We had a Zero, they had a Tomcat, so why not make a small crossover for a last fly over? Rest in Peace Captain Yelland!
If you are into Wildcats, we’re pretty sure you cannot be insensitive to the charms of a Tomcat! Especially prowling on the tail of a Zero…
(All right, that’s a four-bladed zero, but we had to make do – still better than a repainted Texan, am I right! Be nice!)
At any rate, don’ t forget to regularly check the news over at Triassic’s FB page regarding their exciting project SEA POWER in you are into Big Cats. I know there are some fans around here.
The recently late, always great Kirk Douglas’s finest film…although he did a WWI movie once…Paths of Glory?…which was OK but didn’t have Tomcats in it…so, not as good.
Hello Damien!
Well, that was weird, maybe you have a virus on your computer or something, but it seems to be posting malware links together with your posts. Check your computer mate
And thanks everybody else for the kind words, of course
Anyway, today a little more of an aviation-centered nugget - a small featurette about the TBD and its fish with in-game footage. Hope you’ll like that!
I don’t doubt a second that we have a few art critics in here. Well, there you go.
A small featurette of our 2D artist freehanding a Zero for our in-game concept art. Enjoy the show & cheers
I know it’s the super carrier season - ours are super not because of their sheer size (well, by today standards) but because they’re legendary. And they will all be there
Ryujo, Junyo & Hiyo are still on their way to the gathering - we will take another family photo when the time is right. In the meantime, enjoy the sight of their sisters
(including Zuikaku & Zuiho in their Late 1944 dress!)
