The SwAF Rb05 missile simulator that I got to try, also had a model landscape that was displayed on the screen.
Old tech, but it worked

Thanks! That brought back a fond (but hazy) memory of playing this one to death when I was little

Never seen that before! Tell us more…

Sure! With the caveat I was little enough that I remember a step stool was required so some of this may be made up.

Basically you were flying a plane (although I could swear it was a helicopter) to drop packages (or skydivers?) to rescue people who were trapped somewhere. After you turned on the game, the disc shaped board slowly starts rotating, then - the best part - you lean in to the bomb site, and can actually see the bombsite view (with crosshairs!) from your little model plane. Then you have to fly the plane with the controller and drop the packages/skydivers in the little buckets on the board.

Looking at the ads online seems like there were a few different versions using the same mechanic, there was the rescue type of game or the bomb dropping (un-rescue?) types.

I remember this from the 70s, it was an absolute pain to set up, with a fishing line to the top of a door frame, then you would fire the plane off the deck along the fishing line which was at an angle … when the plane ran out of energy it would spin round and come back down the line and you would guide it onto the deck :grinning::grinning:

Anyone (old enough) remember these? IIRC, the planes were pretty accurate. I don’t think they flew that well, but they were fun anyway.

oh my god I had that!!!

I have a picture of me on Christmas day launching those corsairs and I swear I looked even more excited than that kid in the ad.

There’s gonna be another 50 year old looking on ebay soon.

Who knew covid would be so expensive? Too much time to get into shopping trouble!

The commercial for it jogged my memory.

If I had not been playing with the Cox hobbies Control line aircraft, especially their PT-19, at that time I know this would have been something I wanted. Still have several of them in storage.

I had the P-40, Ju-87, Spitfire, Corsair, and I destroyed more of these Super Sport versions than I care to admit due to my poor flying skills.

I have a few scars from those!

How do you not get dizzy from those?

I remember my dad telling me about flying those when he was a kid and it sounded crazy, like how could you do it for more than a minute or two without falling over or throwing up? Obviously it’s possible cause people did it (and still do I’m imagining) but I can’t picture it.

It’s not like spinning in a circle looking at the ground. Your focus is not the ground or background but the aircraft itself.

Yes. Plus my experience is two revolutions, then nose dive into the ground

Oh man, @Troll totally derailed this thread!

In my day, this had to be the sexiest model airplane that I destroyed on the first day!

Thanks for the memories @wheelsup_cavu.
