Ah, the usual “new cards and alpha status drivers” phenomenon.
I’m still really happy that I bought my 2080ti a year and a half ago. Can’t put a dollar value on that time or gaming goodness…or at least, whatever value anyone else assigns to it, isn’t the same as mine. Not sure what I’ll get next…but I’m still pretty happy with my performance with my Reverb Gen 1. If I can cram a new card into this tiny MSI case at some point I might do it. Or do the old “hand me down” thing and give the MSI to my son and get something new with a new card.
Anyway…just thought I’d mention “value” isn’t really solely measured in money…
And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it’s sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you’re older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
Hopefully we all live to see the 100xx series…
I have a GeForce GTX 980 Ti.
And I’m not replacing it until you all agree on something!
I have a Canopus Pure 3D card and a Voodoo 5-5500 (AGP!) in a box somewhere. You could SLI them!!
I resemble this remark
Okay generally:
IF current GPU is Nvidia & older than RTX-20XX series, wait for 3080TI/Super/Whatever with 20GB of VRAM.
ELSE IF current GPU in RTX-20XX series, hold for next gen RTX-40XX.
ELSE IF current GPU in RTX-30XX series, you’re lucky to have beaten the bots!
ELSE, you must be trying to play with integrated graphics or an AMD card and I can’t help you!
My gpu graveyard, obsolete now but allowed some great gaming the gtx295 is the pick of the bunch. It was 2x 285 sandwiched together and was around the time of my OFP days when we won the ECL with the zeus Spartans

All cost money and all became obsolete but if I had to do it all again I would, same with the new cards 5 years time and the 2080ti and 3080s will be old hat and Ray tracing will sink back into obscurity
Ummm, what’s that old saying…
Video card life cycles are shorter than Molly Ringwald’s acting career!
The Voodoo 5 was a Win98-era card. The 486 was already old when Win95 came out. It was the best DOS CPU, but starting with 95 you really need Pentiums.
Unlike today, you didn’t sit on a CPU for 4 years back then and still get decent performance with current programs. After 2 years you were hurting.
My 486 couldn’t use AGP, it was VESA local bus then. By the time I got a V5 I was rocking a Pentium III 800Mhz IIRC. I remember I got an Athlon 1.2GHz AFTER I had the V5, and I’m pretty sure that P3 preceded it. I had a Celeron 550MHz before that, OC’d.
so what do you think of 3080 performance in DCS? The video and the infinite thread commenting the videos on Ed forums?
is the game cpu capped?
isn’t the 3080 giving more results in VR than a 2080ti?
i mean this video!
Well…
People struggling to get a card could try this website, and set themselves an alert for when a card becomes available.
That can happen any moment, day or night, so its up to you to wake up quickly if it happens to be 2am, jump (Probably in your underwear) towards your computer, (don’t trip over the Cat!!) and order before anyone else gets to it!!
Good Luck!
I still have my 8800s in a old rig
That was one warm card
