NVIDIA RTX 3000 series

My 1080 is dropping me into second tier settings at 1440p on some titles. I dislike.

@Torc It’s a decent card if I remember correctly… Nvidia has gone a bit weird with the 1660/1650 variants and I can never remember the specs and how they line up.

@Rhinosaurus shame! Time for an upgrade

Been reading up a bit and it looks like Nvidia is able to supply about 5% of the demand currently world wide based on local reports. Some countries see very little though, it looks like people in the US have the highest chance of getting a 3080.

Rumours have it that the Samsung fab is having extremely low yields, hopefully Nvidia will move to TSMC though I doubt there’s much capacity there either way. Higher yields would be a positive though.

The biggest issue has been the concentration of global fab capacity in a single company for high performance chips these days. Lets hope TSMC’s fabs are safe from nature’s woe’s…

The 1660/1650 are like the 10x0 series but juiced up.
Unlike the 20x0/30x0 there’s no RT, but they are superior to the 1050/1060 cards.

The problem with 1440p gaming is there are more pixels to push than 1080p and frankly they need more power even when RT isn’t in the picture.

With my 2070 I can max out games @1080p with or without RT and get good performance. If I wanted 1440p, though, I would need the 2080 now. Well, a 2070Super MIGHT do it, depending on the title.

Yeah, it is a thing to consider for VR as well, essentially rendering two 1440p frames each refresh… my understanding is that even the higher 20xx cards have problems with this though?

Actually if I’m wrong maybe don’t correct me … I don’t have money for a new GPU right now!

I have a 1080ti and I’m champing at the bit for at least a 10GB 3080. Nothing fancy. Zero supply.

That dude just bought a stolen video card. The seller/”business person” probably lifted it out of someone’s car, receipt and all.

Shady.

3090 vs 3080 in vr!

at least in games tested the huge amount of ram doesn’t make much difference imho

if you check their other article it’s clear there’s a big leap from 2080ti to 3080 and a little one to 3090…

also didn’t know babeltech reviews but they said they have hired a new journalist lovers of car and flight sims and more benchmarks will come, so a site to keep an eye on!

Ouch!!

Oh dear

Low yields anyone? Not much else I can readily see as a reason to cancel these SKU’s when usually Nvidia likes to have a horse ready for every race at every tier.

They took away the option we all wanted. Ugh.
Could they at least replace the 3080 with the 20GB model?

Hmmm kinda makes me think waiting yet ANOTHER generation from my 1080ti might be the play here.

They have trouble covering the demand for the existing products so it probably makes sense not to launch more products now.

Or GDDR6X is not available in sufficient quantities yet
Or more mem is not needed to do battle with AMD 6K
Or (insert favourite conspiracy theory here)

They just thinned out the roadmap seeing that it‘s all going to hell in 2020. A good decision, as we‘ll all get our fix with the 3080 super cards or whatever the name will be.

I still think GPU card RAM size is overrated. The speed needs to catch up with the size since forever. FPS is king, not size of RAM. If I could, I‘d choose 8 GB GDDR7 on a 512 bit bus over 16 GB GDDR6 on a 384 bit bus.

This is the truth here. I was just telling my new guy about how important bus speed is over silly numbers.

Back when I had dual 660ti, one died and since they were EOL (700s out) MSI could only warranty me a 670.

660ti was 3GB 192bit bus, 670 was 2GB 256bit bus.
The 660TI was far superior in DCS to the 670 despite the lower memory bus. By the numbers, the GPU’s themselves are reasonably close.

The 670 was set aside as a spare and eventually became my server’s GPU until retirement when I upgraded it to 9th gen intel and opted for onboard only (it’s a server) to save power.

I’m disappointed by this news . I think DCS Vulkan , my transition to a Reverb G2 , and further graphics fidelity development will require >10gb vram over the long term i am looking at with my next GPU purchase .
I will be closely monitoring every scrap of info regarding the 6900xt . The only other realistic option for vram would be a 3090 , which is overkill on SO many levels .

Keep in mind these cards only existed in rumors.

More likely that there will be S/+/Ti/50/ultra variants coming eventually with more VRAM. (Hopefully)

A 3080 Black Friday sale would be awesome though…

Careful about that combination. Remember what the good book says.
