We both did that, fortunately for me I have had mine since December so feel the premium to be slightly offset, blame the Chinese mate for cracking down on bitcoin
Sidenote:
Actually, bitcoin mining has not been a factor for GPU prices in years. Bitcoin mining is unprofitable on GPUs and is now done with ASICs, which are single purpose but offer much higher productivity per Watt. The majority of GPU mining happens for the Ethereum network, but China cracking down on cryptomining in general may play a big part.
I can feel the pain @Troll
Try to look at it as a NOK spent per hour of use of your 3090 and I am sure it will only look better with time.
Now make sure you put the hours on the GPU
That’s what I’m saying… They waited for me to buy one.
3080 are still over $3k in Canada. If you can find one.
That rationalization my friend is what keeps me in this expensive hobby. Glad I’m not the only one
My budget was woefully prepared for these shenanigans though.
Just wait til 2022, new stuff is already being fab’d, nVidia and AMD will sell off what they have and let Intel fill the gap til next round of GPU’s are fab’d in high enough volume.
Haha Im totally done with this gen. Buying other toys. Just bought a trainer RC plane. Checking out the kids RC cars to make sure they still works think one only turns one way. Will have to buy new ones if broken
Waitin to see what I can get next gen, or 2021 gen at clearance prices, I still have to get a new VR Headset so that’s another $300 ish, Rift S will suffice.
My Love for AMD can only hold me over for so long, the prices and lack of availability are the only 2 things stopping me.
Mean while the RTX3070 in my laptop absolutely shines…
But Desktop RTX3070+'s have jumped back above 1200 for decent ones, no thanks, china cracked down and they started buying from U.S. and Importing, simple reflash to work.
In Comparison, a 6900XT is supposed to MSRP $1499, and is still going for $2999 regular price, and $2499 on sale, if you can get them in stock.
Meanwhile an Xbox Series S is 300 bucks, available and not bad at all.
I got one to replace the old PS3 for the occasional Coop game with my son.
It‘s quiet and starts/switches games in a few seconds. Quite impressive.
The only problem is that it does not run the games or controllers we love. But maybe it‘s enough to tide a few people over this summer?
AMD Also released an Xbox APU Kit:
AMD Quietly Launches Recycled Xbox Series X APU As 4700S Desktop Kit | Tom's Hardware.
So to get one, selling just one kidney instead of both will suffice?
So now the going rate for a 3080 is one kidney, arm and leg ( your choice left or right) and first born
Whoa! Congratulations mate!
