NVIDIA RTX 4000 Series

Really interesting. Looks like when i replace my 2060S it will be with an AMD card… Over the years I’ve flip-flopped between NVIDIA and AMD anyway, just like I have between AMD and INTEL CPUs.

Biggest issue for me is power and that 40 series power draw is insane. No way I could wear that, we are totally off-grid. As it is, unless I have had a reasonably sunny day… ‘no gaming for me’.

If you don’t have the information … why make a post like that?

Yes … but it is based on the ‘current gen’ chipset with a life time of 2020 to 2022. You are comparing it to … checks notes … an Nvidia card that is ‘next gen’, is announced and isn’t available for a couple of weeks.

If you want to do a better comparison, then the AMD 6900 XT versus the Nvidia 3090, or the AMD 6950 XT versus the Nvidia 3090 Ti are better comparisons.

And yes. The Nvidia card still smokes the AMD cards but not as much as ‘current gen’ versus ‘next gen’ shows,

I don’t expect the ‘next gen’ AMD cards to beat the Nvidia ones. We will have to wait for AMD to announce them, but the release date is supposed to be 3 November 2022. Rumour is 16k cores for the AMD cards … but I still think that Nvidia will keep it’s performance crown. My hope is that AMD is competitive at a lower price.

Come on now, it may have sounded a bit provocative but I’m sure @Elby has good intentions, always. We should know him by now.

Some people tend to use provocative questions to get others to say something (I know I do too!). But he did pose the question and responded very positively when he got the explanation he was looking for too.

On topic:
I 100% agree we need regulations to stop this power hungry nonsense of the greedy corporations. Tech youtubers focusing on the “flagship” cards have contributed to this but are thankfully turning around now to critique the 4090’s power budget.

About the pricing, I still have hope that AMD undercuts somewhat but they may well be happy to join in the cash grabbing. They too payed a lot for the wafers and have an obligation to shareholders to make as much money as possible.

Are there any benchmarks or insights on 4090 performance for FS2020 and DCS in particular? Now that this DLSS (sp?) was added to FS2020, will it make a huge difference between a 3080 and 4090?

Might be - but not seen anyone with an actual card yet to test.

Was thinking of buying an RTX4000 to heat the house this winter but will seriously be looking at AMD this time instead.

DLSS3.0 makes a huge difference in rendered frames, only because it adds filler frames

Nvidia GeForce RTX 40 Series & Power Specifications …

This is interesting …

Yes, very. I will still be waiting on some real world test results before I decide to pull the trigger on a 40 series… But after a bit of research yesterday, while they may not have the outright performance, AMD cards are shaping up the be a better value proposition for me as a 2060S replacement.

Yup, I’ll also be watching for next gen AMD tech.

If I get the 4080 16GB, I’ll probably burn my current minimum spec 750W PSU out in short order. Whatever.

well the current pricing is too much for me will need to wait and see what the 4070series brings to the table…

And dont forget Jayztwocents is highy reccomending getting the new 3.0 power supply along with these new 4xxx series cards…

I would say the same thing…

Again.

Well apparently the PSU Issue with the 4xxx series cards was a hoax. I was just talking with my friend on TeamSpeak and he said Gamers Nexus came out and said it was a Hoax…

So I guess you can still use a Regular PSU as long as it meets the wattage/Amperage requirements… @ 7:00 minutes…

Good to hear!

For what I understand, the PSU issue was down to a couple of things: 1) The connector has a short cycle span; 2) The new connector communicates back to the PSU to negotiate its power requirements and older PSU’s, or using the adpater, prevents this; and 3) with the adapter it could lead to power supplies that pull too much from 1 rail (which can happen with the adapter pulling together multiple 8-pin connectors from the PSU which could be on the same rail).

Seems the RTX4090 can now be ordered at my go-to PC shop:
https://www.kmcomputer.de/search?sSearch=rtx4090

But 2300 to 2600 Euro for a card makes me gulp…

Found this video on MS FS2020 with a rtx4090:

According to ASUS TUF GeForce RTX 4090 Gaming review - (Raytracing + DLSS2 and DLSS3 games)
it’s a press release of FS2020 with support for DLSS3.

I found in the review at guru3d the bang for buck chart quite interesting. Clearly the card comes with a hefty price tag and that is reflected there in comparison with more budget friendly cards: ASUS TUF GeForce RTX 4090 Gaming review - Bang for buck

It makes a lot of sense … NVIDIA should just develop a PC platform around their video card engine LOL! The PC parts would be dirt cheap in comparison and at least it might be guaranteed to not blow up!

Would make a dandy space heater. They said electricity would be cheaper than gas this year.
Good marketing nvdia if you ask me.

NVIDIA is UNLAUNCHING the 12 GB 4080 LOL! They finally came to their senses.
