What if this was their plan all along,
Soft Launch a BS 4080 12 GB, just to get people to buy the 4080 16GB, then take it all back and launch the card as the 4070 it should’ve been, lol.
nVidia is already facing product cost overruns.
It’s kinda frustrating what nVidia can get away with. I’m hoping that AMD can close the gap on performance per Watt and the quality of their super sampling as well as their GPGPU support.
I have to pull a chart out of that article @HiFlyer. 12 GB “4080” … good riddance! I’m interested to see what DLSS 3 looks like …
There is an ongoing thread on the Avsim forums by a person who was already ordered, received, and is using a 4090. According to him, DLSS three shows significant artifacting which makes it nearly worthless for his purposes.
not gonna say I told ya so, but…
NVIDIA has been making bad design decisions since the launch of the 3000 series. At least they seem to be listening to the consumer now …
Seems like someone finally decided that ASW/reprojection that we have been using for years for VR might actually be useful in the 2D world. Artifacts are part of the trade off.
I am now kinda glad that a 4000 series is off the cards (pun intended) for me. About the only components from my current PC that could be ‘recycled’ are the CPU, drive and RAM… Possibly the motherboard, but I would need a bigger case and MB’s are comparatively cheap as is RAM so it would make sense to go ‘all in’. Therefore, big dollars if I did.
I will ‘need’ to replace my 2060S in the near future and even a 3080 will necessitate a PSU upgrade, so if I was going to replace the card today it would be with a ‘Gigabyte Radeon RX 6750 XT GAMING OC 12GB’ which I can get for AUD899 (delivered) because for me that offers the best price Vs performance and will keep me going for another couple of years until my next full rebuild.
Oh man, look at the 4090 running like 25 degrees Celsius cooler than the 3090Ti that’s running it’s ass off ha ha! The 4090 system is clearly CPU bottlenecked in that vid but even the CPU is running cooler!
There’s no reason to buy a 4000 series card if all you want to do is run it in 2K type resolutions. 4K and up is the future man. IMO, DCS has to address the CPU bottleneck issue if it wants to survive …
I have to say that my 2080Ti still handles everything I throw at it when it comes to 2D gaming. My monitor is an old 32 inch 1080p LCD TV (also going strong and refusing to die). For VR though, I feel I need all the horsepower I can get. This January marks the 4 year point for my current PC. It’s been great overall but I feel some upgrading is not too far off now.
This vid popped up in my feed tonight. Guy seems really impressed with DLSS 3 … although he might be biased since NVIDIA sponsored the vid …
Looks good from where I’m sitting! I must be getting too old … am I the only one that thinks Cyberpunk 2077 looks stupid? Is there a reason for me to like this game?
I guess I’ve always been a simulation guy because I’ve always been a realist and I’ve never wanted to “escape” into some role playing game or fantasy world. I find the real world challenging enough ha ha!
