didnt have time yet to install all the mandatory mods but at least gave AC a try. I like it, runs smooth and the sense of speed is there, also there are nice differences in handling between the cars. at least as far as I can tell after driving with joystick
…dust and smoke behind my car means I am fast, right?
I’ve yet to actually race in AC. I added a “Pacific Coast Highway” and “LA Canyons” free-roam tracks, and just go cruising to relax and destress to some music. Running along the 25km to 45km stretch of road is quite nice.
There are so many high quality free add-ons, think DCS A-4E-C and CH-60L Black Hawk, that most of the original default cars are looking pretty long in the tooth. For instance, I posted about the VRC McLaren MP4/4 above that is an absolute blast to drive at Monaco or any classic track.
Nice. I haven’t driven the PCH since it was originally released. Need to circle back.
NFS had a good physics model , but when some of the prettier sims with community modding got acceptable physics, I found myself driving it less and less. It was really good back in the day though.
The MP4/4 takes some laps to get the tires to operating temps, and then must be driven with a delicate foot. IMHO, tiptoeing around Monaco is really a challenge, and when I can get through a race without bending it, I find it really satisfying.
So even though there are a few cars that are payware in the video that I posted above, I’ve spent so little on Assetto Corsa over the years, I decided to treat myself to a Le Mans grid. The track and a few cars are included. EDIT: I mistakenly skipped installing the skins from his grid pack. With that corrected, I see 36 cars, with mostly current Le Mans skins. Really well done! The URD cars (clones of the Toyota GR010 Hybrid and Glickenhaus 007 LMH) are very nice, but the VRC Revenga R13 (Oreca Rebellion R13 LMP1 and LMH clone) has got an amazing setup and little more detailed feel in the FFB, IMHO.
For those (few) of you who, like me, want to know the similarities in the Le Mans Hypercar, LMH, and Le Mans Daytona hybrid, LMDh, next year’s fast car which will compete in the WEC and IMSA endurance series, here is a helpful chart. The initiative is in the interest of bringing manufacturer’s team back into endurance racing, which is a huge success judging by the list of car builders who will participate next year, Ferrari (first in 50 years), Porsche, Cadillac, BMW, Peugeot, Toyota, Audi, Lamborghini, and others. I’m thinking that 2024 will be the year to see Le Mans, if it’s on your bucket list.
Hmmm, if $14 million gets you 9 seconds quicker, then the price of speed at this level is $1.6 million per second.
It’s really fun to drive, as in it has tons of oversteer. Actually more than the Porsche’s which surprised me. Assetto Corsa continues to impress. I think that ACC’s physics model development has trickled down (up) to it’s older sibling. Some of the 3rd party cars are approaching ACC and rFactor 2 in feel.
but for now I am having too much fun with classic sportscars like Civics, Preludes, Lancers, Carreras, Escorts, Sierras, Skodas … I guess I will slowly progress to the supercars
I was looking back through some screens that I took of a replay of one of the virtual Le Mans races I drove while the real race was in progress and found this shot. Lots of cool details like the starting order and the video of the pit, though all of the cars would be on the grid. The track version is Le Mans_2019 linked in the YT grid pack post above.
Hey NEVO, what “track” is that? I thought that I had a PCH track downloaded, but can’t find it. Never mind, found it. Pacific Coast Highway. I do have Mulholland Drive and LA Canyons (below). Mulholland is fun, but a little tedious in anything but an econobox. I love LA Canyons though. You can really sink your teeth into it.
Inspired by a Malcolm Gladwell podcast, “Revisionist History: An Ode to the BMW M5” and his most prized possession, a 2003 BMW M5 E39. Apparently car geeks call this car the best sport sedan ever built! (and I believe it) …
So I grabbed the $1 Microsoft PC Game Pass for three months deal and I’m cruising the streets of Mexico in his silver BMW M5 in Forza Horizon 5! It’s not REALLY a sim but I’m still quite impressed.
