You gotta do the dirt racing. The off road truck racing is sweet. I’ve played around 4hrs of FH5 so far. I like it, but it’s getting kind of repetitive.
Will do! I freekin’ love offroad truck racing. It’s a nice relaxing cruiser for sure though. Can’t go wrong for a buck.
When the Z4 came out, my wife was hot to trade up from her Miata. When we were at the stealership, I asked the sales person if we could test an M5. The Z4 deal was almost done, so he tossed us the keys to the M5 and said have fun. Well, it pretty much was the most fun I had had driving a real car, save a friend lending me his Carrara 4 the day before my wedding, but I digress. I begged my wife to ditch the Z4 and get the M5, to which she gave me that go F yourself look. I’ve always wanted one since then. A used one would be fine. Early 2000’s mint M5 would be really sweet.
I had an M5 and swapped it for a Vauxhall (Holden) Monaro VXR. I Always felt like the VXR was the better car and the beemer was gonna break me financially when it broke
The fuel bill on the VXR was not even slightly funny though.
there is only one sport sedan I ever wanted
Honda Accord Type-R 1999-2003
her engine is just terrific, max performance at 7200rpm, insane !
You may know the H22 dohc vtec engine from the Prelude, but here it produces 217hp at 7200RPM…
That sounds fantastic dad! Happy fathers day.
yeah, lol, the same to all dads
I’m just tinkering around with F1 22 now. Although the HP G2 isn’t officially supported, it works nice. Just fire up SteamVR and then start the game.
With graphics set to Ultra High, F1 22 brings my framerates down into the 40’s on my 3080 in 4K without VR! When you get your VR up and running, just start with the VR Ultra High preset and start dialing all the stuff you don’t care that much about like ambient occlusion (HBAO) down a few notches. You’ll get it running nice and smooth.
I think they’ve done a great job of incorporating VR so far! Open wheel feels great!
I bought it today too. Will gets in some Silverstone testing tonight. I’m really interested in how the cars feel compared to the other three in AMS2 and AC. I heard that popoising is not modeled. Will not loose sleep over that.
I have a lot of experience with driving sims and this might be is the worse release I’ve ever seen. I wish that I’d saved my $72 while they work out the many bugs in this miserable mess. It wouldn’t run in either 2D or VR for me. The audio pauses ever few seconds in the menu like the processor was written for a PS5 and Steam installed the wrong version on my system. It’s hard to believe that it was released in this condition and that none of the “reviews” that I watched on YT mentioned this. Going to look at RD forums now.
Did you play less than 2 hours? You can probably still return it.
I saw some Steam reviews earlier and walked quickly away.
I soooo wish there were more realistic input devices for real racing sims (the ones in the arcardes are the closest I’ve seen, but the sim sux) - two wheels
For those that have never endangered themselves this way, in short: you are physically a part of the machine. I see no way to simulate, for instance; draggin a knee-puck, throwing it around, crawling all over the tank, a raging beast between your…er…knees … feeling the rear start to slip and adding throttle instead of backing off; etc, etc.
Whew, I only did track days (no competition) but the adrenaline rush from 25 years ago is still in me…and the stale odor of rented leathers
Good to know.
I’ve tried running it 4 or 5 times. It must be something like if you have an AMD processor with an NVidia GPU and you use a Fanatec wheel, or some combo that the sim doesn’t like, because some people are fine. But for me, it’s a stuttering mess, even in the menus, with low to medium graphic settings. Some users mention turning off the Steam overlay, but that had no effect.
I went to Steam last night and didn’t see any Steam reviews. So IDK what the heck I was talking about. Maybe I saw some Youtube comments to some videos. Just wanted to clarify, as to sound less idiotic.
They are scattered, but there. There seems to be chatter about the pauses being related to controllers and if you have separated your pedals via USB, which I have. You can’t update Fanatec pedals if they are connected via a wheel base, so most people connect them separately via USB. Perhaps this is grasping for straws, but will test the theory after work. One thing that happens to me and might be symptomatic is that my accelerator pedal is always reversed, even though I’ve saved a new profile (in between massive pauses) in the game.
A few topics related to the pauses in the Steam forum are:
FPS issues (freezing) on high end PC
Day 1 Patch
Massive Lag & Tracking Issues in VR
1FPS with RTX 3080Ti, i9 9900K and 32 Giga RAM !!!
I’ve been told that the mods are responding better in the EA forum.
Geez, I’m glad I’m trying it with the $5 a month EA Play deal! It’s weird that I haven’t experienced any of the problems you mentioned and I too have my G27 pedals separated from my G29 wheel with a Bodnar USB cable!
I’ll be trying it some more after I clean out the garage …
Yes, some, maybe the majority, are only having the normal early adaptor bugs. But for many, the game is unplayable. Ha, for me, the menus are unplayable. I tried connecting my pedals to my wheelbase as has been reported, but that only made the pauses worse
83 minutes of trying to get it to run according to Steam. Watching those 120 mins count down.
All I can say is grab CCleaner Professional and run the invaluable Driver Updater …
https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/driver-updater
I’ve never run across a better tool that keeps all my 117 drivers up to date!!!
I just ran it and it let me know about the new NVIDIA driver 516.59 game ready for F1 22 …
Heading out to dinner exhausted after clearing out the garage. Happy Canada Day everyone! Have a great 4th of July you yanks!
Finally solved this one…

Ran the verify local files integrity check. Rt-click the game in Steam Library > Properties > Local files > Verify the integrity of game files.

At the end of this process, an additional window popped up, something like Voice recognition or speech engine, which I hadn’t seen during the original install. Once this finished the game worked perfectly in 2D and VR. I hot-lapped and drove a race without issues, mostly in VR.
Thought: I wonder if it’s the install routine that’s the problem and not the game or controllers that everyone is pointing at?
Anyway, the driving physics are better, although not quite as good as VRC mod for AC or AMS2. But much better. The force feedback is pretty meh. Still tinkering with the settings, but so far it’s either too light or too synthetic feeling when you dial it up. Drivable though. Had a good time hotlapping Miami circuit. Ran one race in Austria and really enjoyed it. The graphics and atmosphere are superb. I really like how the team boss talks you through the practice, qually, and race sessions.
