If ED aren’t adhering to terms then that’s on them… sure it’s bad to air dirty laundry but at some point the only impetus to do a thing might be bad press. Given every company is in different jurisdictions!
I hope they can get it resolved, and everyone can get paid their dues. DCS really hasn’t ever been in a better state than it has recently and I’d hate for another Hawk incident to happen, particularly with a platform as important and well done as the Mudhen (lets be honest, the Hawk was worse than the third party free mods we have now!)
Edit: not to mention the Mirage 2000 and the MiG-19!!
We don’t know that. ED holding back funds could indicate that in their view, Razbam are in breach of contract. There are two sides to every story and we probably won’t get the full picture from either side.
That’a true. We don’t actually know, and I might be responding to a feeling that Razbam is automatically the badguy because of the people involved, that I probably got from reading other sources, not mudspike
Interesting. But this is the risk you take when you fragment your business and/or outsource. (Meaning ED) I don’t particularly care, though. There’s enough good stuff in my DCS hangar that if a few models stopped working I’d just bid them a fond fare-thee-well and fly what’s left.
Thanks for posting the off-Mud commentary @Phantom88 and @Navynuke99. I’d have never known otherwise.
Unprofessional to bring this out in the public. It should have been addressed behind closed doors, involving lawyers if necessary.
That said, it’s not surprising coming from Razbam. Over the years it feels like there’s a pattern of them starting drama when the community isn’t paying them enough attention.
Agree.
I have been collaborating for years with several 3rd parties and despite things being hardly perfect, no others had to make anything closely to this disrespectful outing.
Personal opinion if you start the fight in the court of public opinion, it’s because you are not confident about winning in the court of law. If Razbam felt they had a solid court case, there’s no reason to go public. I believe they don’t feel they have a good chance in the court of law. Now that doesn’t mean they may not be the victim and be completely blameless, it’s fair to say that in our court system being right doesn’t always means the ruling will be in your favor.
The problem with bidding farewell to Razbam aircraft is their hanger is a large part of the community. Harrier, Mirage 2000, Mig19 and Strike Eagle are all popular aircraft. It’s not as simple as losing 1 airframe like VEAO.
The DCS 3rd party contract was changed after the VEAO Hawk to include escrow.
ED asked VEAO to give the source code for the Hawk so they could keep maintaining it. VEAO said no. Apparently, hurting ED was more important to them than satisfying their customers.
Nowadays if something like that happens, ED won’t have to ask. If a third party stops maintaining their modules, the escrow agency will deliver the source code to ED so they can take over maintenance of the modules.
I’d hate to lose Cpt Smiley, let alone all of Razbam. Let’s hope they can come to an agreement.
Forgive me but considering how long it takes ED to deliver on their own products… I’m not gonna hold my breath for them to take over the strike eagle and finish it lol
Of course, it would still very much suck if this happened. But it shouldn’t be as bad as the Hawk where it would be removed with the next update because they only have binaries and can’t even build it against a new version.
Yep, they know how to make amazing modules but their public relations should probably be managed by someone who knows what he’s doing. Going public like this is never good, no matter who’s at fault. This kind of stuff needs to be handled internally and by lawyers if necessary.
The way this is going right now, everyone will lose in the end. I hope they can sort their sh*t out…
Anyway I am going to clean my bike now. Planning a nice Saturday ride and this week was rough on the drivetrain. A good way to get away from the drama
If Ron has receipts and they’re all “done” with ED, then why aren’t they sharing them? M2M also claimed that ED lacks to funds for a lawsuit.
The more Razbam states, the more I find myself skeptical of them. If ED’s response just nothing more than “trust me, bro” then I have to also view this as a “trust me, bro” sort of response, as well. This isn’t terribly compelling evidence.
Im still not over the way razbam spoke to @Chuck_Owl about his guides. Never bought another product from them after that. My thinking was if that was the contempt they treat a guy helping sell their products, imagine how little they care about the people giving them the money.
Not my favourite flight sim company
