That would probably be useful to me on every flight then as I need all the help I can get! . Iâm looking forward to getting the chance to fly a FBW aircraft for the first time (probably in about 18 months or so).
Turn the FBW off. That will make it exciting real quick.
There is no doubt that that these FBW systems are fantastic things and true improvements in actual aviation. But for me, trying to experience flight at my computer while sitting at home, they are counter productive. Missing many of the cues and impressions you have in the real deal, we are relying on other aspects to re-create that feeling of flight. And for me, having a computer flying the thing on my computer is just taking away a lot of what I am actually seeking to experience.
âTurn FBW offâŠâ Actually not all FBW systems would be otherwise unflyable. The F-18 started out as a non-FBW control system and it flew fineâjust not quite fine enough. The A320 in âdirect lawâ is a joy to fly and perfectly stable.
@MBot I completely get it. I prefer helicopters because they are the only things I have flown simulated that fly about the same in real life. I donât know why that is. I have had several flight sim friends learn to fly during our online relationships. One is now an airline pilot. They both commented on how startlingly different airplanes fly than simulators. It wasnât really about difficulty or physics. It was how unpredictable air can be. Thermals and wind and shear all play together in a dizzing array of eddies that make flying both beautiful and challenging. These things will never be simulated accurately. Thatâs right, I said âneverâ . But I do really believe that. We must make do with what we have. The great thing about rich simulations like DCS and X-Plane is that they cater to our differences. We all can find the experience we enjoy. But before putting the M2K to bed, take Bogusâs advice (if you havenât done so already) and really dig into the Nav and HUD modes of the M2K. Razbam really packed alot into it.
@smokinhole and @MBot. I am biased though, as the 320 is my day job. Agreed with @smokinhole about using the abilities of fbw to its fullest.
Dogfighting against an f15 is very good fun. whilst the f15 is superior and can maintain a constant turn rate with huge amounts of thrust, the mirage can pull some great alpha (whilst loosing a ton speed) and is a great test of energy management.
The fun is there. However, i also understand your point @MBot that just chugging through the skies can be tedious. Its fbw and autopilot are pretty good and its like flying a commercial jet in transit.
The way @PaulRixâs career has been moving along I expect he will eventually be flying the Aerion SBJâŠ!
Thank you Google!
The Bombardier Global 7000 (or Global 7500 as they are now calling it). I donât anticipate it being my primary airplane though, but you never know how things will turn out. Right now we have two Global XRSâs in the flight department, with one of them slated to become a new 7000 sometime in the next two years.
There is no doubt that I have been extremely fortunate. If I was younger, I would have to look seriously at getting on with a major airline. Too late for me to worry about that now, and the lack of a degree would be an issue of course.
I wouldnât be at all surprised if someday a SBJ turns up in our hangar. Thatâs a long way off though.
Well airlines are overated! As are degrees. I donât have one and I can BS with the best of those who do.
(Google used again). Praise Be To The Gods, she is so beautiful! And fastâM.925. I fly such garbage (head hung low in shame).
The Global is certainly easy on the eye. The 7000 looks like it is just a stretched XRS, but in reality it is a different airplane, with FBW , side stick controllers, improved HUD, a new wing and a state of the art avionics suite. I am excited at the prospect of flying her. Maybe not so excited that she can fly 7500+ nm .
M.925âŠmmmmâŠdelicious. My B200 - Mmo .52
Yes, but thatâs kind of how we feel when we step off the plane after a 10 or 11 hour flight.
Yesterdayâs defense of FBW soon died an esoteric death, and rightly so. But I wanted to add a little tidbit that may or may not help. When you fly the Mirage and maybe even the X-Plane A-320, it might feel as if pitch and roll arenât in harmony. Roll is robust and quick while pitch seems a little sluggish. This is something of an illusion because we donât feel the gâs we pull. In the actual airplane, the stick commands g until some other limit like AOA takes over. Zero stick will be 1g, full forward might be -3g and full aft might be +9 (depending on the CAT switch). In the F-5, for instance, the resistance to pull is accomplished by the airloads on the stab or maybe an artificial feel system if pitch is hydraulic, I donât know which. In the Mirage, this sense of resistance to overpulling is accomplished mechanically and without artificial feel. The feedback to the pilot is the g felt in his seat and the considerable force it takes to pull anything close to full. Were we to actually feel that, there would be some perceived âbalanceâ between the rate of roll and the rate of pitch or g. I donât know if any of that makes sense. But it was something that bothered me during my first flight in the Mirage until I realized why I was feeling the way I did.
Long time without much news other then the peridoic bug fixes. From RAZBAMâs Faceoobk page: link
Folks, The M-2000C is scheduled for systems overhaul. Based on feedback from the ArmĂ©e de lâAir the following systems will be updated/upgraded:
- Poste de Commande Armement (PCA): Weapons Control Panel
- Poste de Preparation Armement (PPA): Weapons Configuration Panel
- RDI Radar: functionality and control panel.
- Poste de Commande Navigation (PCN): Navigation Control Panel
- RWR.
- VTH (HUD)
- VTB (Radar Display)
- HOTAS
- NVG
- Flight Manual
The functionality of some of these devices will be changed and thus you will have to relearn them again.
The manual will be updated to incorporate these changes.
Looks like they are basically redoing the whole thing.
Upcoming changes to the HUD/PCA
ED Forum link: here
Hello folks, here are the news regarding the M-2000C updates:
Pending review by our friends at the AdA, here are the changes to the PCA/HUD:
- PCA and HUD are now independent of each other. So HUD mode does not depend on selected weapon nor master arm position.
- Master Arm now just enables weapons release/fire. Setting to SAFE or ARM does nothing else.
- HUD enters into AA mode when: Selecting CAN or MAGIC by using the HOTAS button, or by selecting Super 530D on the PCA.
- MAG button on the PCA does NOT select Magic. It performs other functions.
- Selecting an AG weapon will NOT set the HUD to AG ATTACK mode. Only the PCA will enter into AG mode.
- To set the HUD, actually the entire aircraft systems, into AG ATTACK mode the pilot must click the PIP HOTAS switch forward (it is the same switch that sets the Special Modes when in AA mode).
NOTE: The PCA must be in AG mode for the aircraft enter AG ATTACK mode, otherwise AA Special modes will be invoked. - With the HUD/Aircraft in AG ATTACK mode, clicking the PIP HOTAS switch forward again, will return the HUD/aircraft to NAV mode, but PCA will remain in AG mode. (To be confirmed)
- With the HUD/Aircraft in AG ATTACK mode, clicking the PIP HOTAS switch back, will save the AG weapon selection and release parameters, return the HUD/aircraft to NAV mode, and the PCA will also enter NAV mode. (To be confirmed)
- CAN and MAGIC can only be selected via HOTAS.
- When selecting CAN or MAGIC, the radar will become active, even it the power switch is physically in the SIL position.
- Upon deselecting CAN or MAGIC, by selecting PCA SELECT, the radar will return to SIL if the switch is in the SIL position.
- Trying to select a weapon on the PCA when the system is in CAN or MAGIC modes is not possible (to be confirmed).
Our goal is to have these changes ready for the next release. They are undergoing testing right now.
SWEET! Been looking forward to this!
Use of Razbam Mirage 2000C by french air force as training tool, and other projects has incoming (Mirage 2000-D, Rafale, etc).
hell yeah! iâd gladly pay for a 2000-5 with MICA IR and EM, a TPOD and all that goodness.
