I would love to fly the Rafale too.
Iām hoping for the Rafale M, sāil vous plaĆ®t, since theyāre certified for American carrier ops.
I donāt see Rafale happening really. Itās too current. But if it does, itāll rule mercilessly. Even an early mark without the Meteor missile, the AESA and superb EW gear and such.
Well, we are getting a circa 2007 F16 and we have the Hornet from 2005 (?). So would an early production Rafale be completely out of the question?
Donāt get me wrong if itās made by Dassault I probably want it in DCS, however I think the earlier Mirage III and F-1 would be a better fit for DCS as it stands right now. Lets be honest DCSās radar/EW model is lacking, and the more modern we get the more that shows up. As DCS continues to progress certainly the -5 and Rafale would be great, but ATM I think theyāll just showup the issues with DCS.
I thought the Mirage III was in the pipeline? Along with the Falklands map,
Not only that but for me 1965 to 1985 are the golden years of aviation. Those are the machines of my youth dreams. I do love me a TGP and I-win button JDAM, but imo the high points of jet aviation are the Bekaa valley battles, the Osirak raid and the 6 day war.
I want a mirage III and a phantom.
Same here. All the planes i had on on my wall as a kid.
Me as well. Although I think I could bump it up to '95 or so.
I think the 2000-5 fits perfectly within our timeframe. The 2000C we have is a fun little hotrod, but always feels pretty limited to the interceptor role. Being able to really take advantage of its long legs and high speed with the -5 improvements would make for an almost perfect fighter.
I found the 2000C to be a little demon of the OpFor in PvP when in capable hands (and within its tactical limits). I would have a lot more concern for a more modern variant, or perhaps no concern as it may be residing in my virtual hanger, and thus also be my friendly wingmen. (Iāve yet to add a Delta to my roster.)
Get it man, its such a fun ride.
Its a demon in BFM but also has very interesting systems. Its HUD is the best in all of DCS.
Thereās a guy on Blue Flag whoās been quite successful with it against marginal singleton F-18s like myself. His secret? He launches from FL550.
My deaths have been to IR missile with them sneaking up from the flank towards the tail, having maneuvered so quick SA is out of date.
I donāt fault you for the top-down death though, my time on the 104th I noticed that going high is more stealthy than going low vs. players - who seem to always expect you do be on the deck. When the weather is just right - you donāt contrail up there either!
Iāve noticed the same - player fights tend to happen low alt. I guess itās more intuitive to hide in the terrain rather than using speed and altitude as your protection. I am guilty of that too. Partly it is because I fly singleton - a pair would do better at altitude, being able to take turns pressing and notching etc.
I imagine a missile fired at 55k ft would have a substantial energy advantage, accelerating easily in the thin air and converting potential energy to kinetic energy diving down.
That would be hilarious to watch on Tacview or Twitch.
Iāve been messing with it doing CAS work, kind of like how the MiG-21 has been pushed into that role over time. It actually does pretty well, if youāre looking at traditional CAS (āenemies in the treeline, drop a stick of bombs along the woods edgeā) rathe than the modern one smart munition against one vehicle. You can use CCRP mode to dive bomb, just start high and donāt dive steep.
Also you can use it as a high speed bomb truck with someone else lasing. 4-6 GBUās at .9 Mach or better, is also a lot of fun. You can even try out loft bombing in full burner!
About my only wish is being to drop LD bombs in CCIP, which I believe is supposed to be in the next update. That and NVGs, all kinds of pointy nosed Delta goodness to get up to.
Yeah, the current bomb modes just donāt feel right in the M-2000C. Why would you drop slicks in CCRP as the only option?
That always bugged me. I prefer to use slicks as CCIP, snakes/ballute as CCRP.
I thought the same thing, but weāre used to dropping from higher altitude. The Mirage Cās bombing capability (based on Cold War low level doctrine) assumed that retarded drops would be low level high speed so you would be able to see the pipper and get away before the frags would ruin your day as well as the enemy. Similarly, CCRP was the higher altitude bombing, so there was no need for anything but free-fall.
