First OEM 1080 specs
And that’s my GTX Titan X, knocked off its perch I suppose, was fun visiting the Nvidia drivers page on each new release and my card was on top of the list
Even have a vanilla GTX980 in my second PC!
Seriously I’ll not be buying one of these, bought on day one for the past 4 generations of Nvidia cards and felt buyers guilt almost immediately, and I could never really see the difference from one gen to the next, skip two or three gens, and then we’re talking though, also the prices are silly and the hype is worse than ever from Nvidia, most of those benchmarks mean nothing to what we as Flight Simmers do, they are simply not appropriate.
But for anyone with a couple of gen older card looking to upgrade, this would be serious consideration of course.
I might get a 1080 once a Ti or Titan model comes out as an enthusiast, but they will be price gouged too, also if you are really anxious on these cards, hybrid water cooled cards will be out quite soon before Ti’s or Titan versions, there has been some rumours of thermal throttling on these reference board cards.
One last thing, Nvidia were a bit untruthful on the true specs of the GTX970 memory compared to the 980 on its release, so it might be wise for some dust to settle and see some true independent unbiased reviews on these new cards if you are in the market to buy one.
I could buy one now, OcUK (my preferred stockist) have some in stock, and its rare after a 2PM afternoon release on day one that is still the case several hours later, I suspect I’m not the only hardware enthusiast holding back on this one.
Yeah, always skip generations. I used to back when I played the yearly games like Call of Duty and FIFA too.
Off-topic:
When I upgraded to the AMD R9 290, I was coming from an Nvidia GTS450. That was quite the difference! Then the (used) reference 290 broke, and I got an XFX Black Edition DD R9 290X. Small but noticeable difference in performance, huge difference in temperature and sound level. I hope I will be able to use this card for at least two more generations.
Agreed Freak, benchmarks aside, if you want to see a performance increase in your Sims or Games, then unless you really NEED a new DX tech like 12 that inevitably means a new version of Windows too, then stay at least one step behind.
If you are currently a few steps behind, then now might be a good time, but still wait a bit if you can, these are some seriously price gouged day one release Nvidia prices I’m seeing, inflation adjusted, the worst I’ve seen from them so far.
Pure greed from some retailers too.
Got some tests on the 1070
Prices in Canada are ridic. US always selling for 699 instead of 599, and cad prices are only matching at exchange rate because of ‘sale’ price in some stores. Otherwise they’re just flat out even more expensive (markup+ exchange instead of just exchange).
So much hype, so much greed. 909$ minimum in Canada (comparable to the 900 series cards though they’re slightly cheaper.
Is import / export tariff being pawned off on consumer or seller? That would explain big difference…
I’ve been fairly disappointed by the launch of the 1080. So much hype for a release with what appears to be extremely limited initial stock.
Hopefully the launch of the non-Founder’s Edition cards will go more smoothly.
I think the reference cards are first, but they are rarely the best. They tend to be +$100 compared to what follows (usually only a few weeks after) and sometimes not even very good cooling.
The founders being out of stock probably means you get a better functional and value card for your money, so there is a bright side
To be fair, I just rechecked the reviews I was reading, and it’s the founders editions are being +100$. The extra markup in Canada is irritating as hell, but +100 is as it was announced.
The partner boards should be at the lower price point to start.
That cooler is obscene for a 150W TDP card.
When will these cards be available? (Or are they?) - I’m probably gonna pull the trigger as soon as I can.
It’s a paper launch. The supply is a bit on the low side right now. But should steadily increase over the months
Those prices won’t be seen for several months. Could be Christmas. The partner non-reference cards in Canada are almost all the same cost (or nearly) if not more than the founders editions. The price hype is bollocks right now.
So I’m gonna have to plan a heist to get one? Who’s in?
According to Benchlife, GeForce GTX 1060 may arrive sooner than previous expected. The rumors were that Pascal GP106-based graphics card would arrive around August. However the latest information suggest that actual launch will take place next week, on July 7th. Card will go on sale a week later on July 14th, so just when custom Radeon RX 480 cards were expected to hit the stores.
The rumors are that GTX 1060 will feature GP106 GPU with around 1280 CUDA cores, 3GB and 6GB variants and 192-bit memory interface. According to the same website both of these variants will use different GPU models: GP106-300 (3GB) and GP103-400 (6GB). That’s rather a bizarre move, unless those GPUs have different core configurations. So maybe there are two GTX 1060 cards coming, one being Ti? We shall learn more in the coming days.
