btw 55" was the biggest I could fit into my ‘pit’ so I went for that and at the same time the smallest QLED with 120Hz game mode iirc.
but because of performance hit in 4k I am gravitating slowly to 2k in 100Hz.
tested just yesterday and I cant live with 60Hz. maybe its just placebo but the difference between 60Hz/60fps and 100Hz/100fps is like flying low in a sim with zoomed in picture and zoomed out picture. that sense of speed is just better in 100fps imo ( me and my imagination )
thats why I am questioning the size now. 2k on 55" are quite big pixels. on the other hand that true to life fov, as you mentioned @Elby , is what makes it worth.
I’m pretty happy with my 48” LG OLED. Even at 4K I like my MSAA at x4. I get can get a steady 60 fps pretty much everywhere in DCS except when flying really low over big cities in the Syria map with my 3090.
The key for me to get the smoothest motion is these NVCP settings:
Gsync ON
FPS locked at 60
Vsync FAST
I also turn on the gsync indicator so I know it’s on and working.
On screen motion and Track IR panning is super smooth with these settings. I’ve tried running my panel at 2k but couldn’t deal with the clarity reduction.
I spend a couple hours hand flying a spitfire Mk XIV all over southern england and the channel. New il-2 patch is yummy. However, my body is not as happy as my mind is with the flight. I have been sitting slightly skewed, because of the ergonomics of my pit.
My stick is a long tall centermounted Virpil CM2, curved extension and ten cm one below that. The seat is the passenger seat from an old mercedes that I scavenged. This makes the stick sit slightly forward from the perfect position, as I don’t want it hitting the seat cushion when pulling it back.
So what I need to improve this situation, is to cut into the seat. Now here’s the question: How shall I go about this? what is the best way to repair the upholstery of the seat when I’m done destroying it? @Troll , got any ideas?
that chair will have a metal springs underneath with foam padding on top… it should be possible to cut a notch in it … you may have to then cover the chair to make it look nice
Ah geez. No way am I going to compete with the Gold Standard. Bronze at most lol
I will need to gain some new skills, such as working with fabric, using a sewing machine. At least there’s one of those in my household, and someone who can and will want to teach me how to properly use it.
Now, he’s finally happy, you say? No! Troll is, in fact, not… He sees a new shiny seat from Monstertech, and buys that. Now he’s considering a total SimBox makeover, just to be able to use that seat instead…
I need to make a proper base for it. Its way too high.
I was thinking about welding a cube or rectangular base for it to bolt to about 12 inches high, with a a leg extension for my rudder pedals to sit on. Wouldnt take long to tack a prototype together
