If you ask me, the Monster tech guys should be building Troll seats. Then name it the STroller.

back in the day, whilst I was a grunt - I was always designing stuff for a mob down south that I used to get to build all my tactical pouches, vests, chest rigs etc. long before they were readily available from multiple brands…
& when i took a year off from the military (LWOP) & was looking for work & rang them up, they didnt remember me but said the name sounded familiar & told me to go in for an ‘interview’

I walked in the door & the door & the GM recognised me & said “You!!!.. you’re hired!!”:
felt pretty good.

then i had to learn how to sew properly, learnt to be a civilian parachute rigger, but never bothered with the certification, in hind-sight i should have but would have never been in a position to renew it anyway.

it is an excellent skill to have & I still have 3 or 4 industrial machines I have acquired over the years (compound feed/walking foot, bar-tack, 5 thread overlocker with safety stitch, I sold my straight stitch (crazy fast) & dual needle machines) that collect more dust than see work, but they are fantastic to have when you need them.
these days i mostly sew heavy duty stuff, make dog collars & leads for Assistance Dogs Australia & odd jobs as they pop up.
I learnt some very good skills working for master para-riggers that demanded perfection, not just functionally sound, but aesthetically perfect as well.
good enough was never an option, everything had to be immaculate.
which is a noble trait when dealing with life saving equipment. where the mandatory standards were not only met , but consistently exceeded.

I used to produce all their para-military equipment for police, mostly SOG (SWAT equivalent) & the few military units that were located nearby. We also got some contracts to supply the SASR one year, again back before there was any big brands like Blackhawk etc.

I would not want to try and touch that cat when it landed. It is liable to claw someone to death. :grimacing:

I dunno … I ran across this dirty old Kenworth truck passenger seat today … it’s still mounted on the original metal box … even has a document box on the back … felt pretty comfortable …

I was thinking I could make it a “sim seat” and I think I could get it cleaned up pretty good but I don’t know if there’s any advantage to using car/truck type seats to office chairs? Any opinions from those who’ve scavenged car seats for their setups?

They’re pretty comfortable, if they’re not too ragged out. And for extended sim sessions, comfort is key.
You can recover it easily after a bath. No need for the realism of ass sweat in a sim pit.

Cool. I have a good power washer … I think I’ll grab it tomorrow, throw some soap on it and power wash it on the weekend.

I have the passenger seat of a 2000’s Jetta as the centerpiece of my flight sim setup. It has worked quiet well for many years.

Car seats are awesome. They are made to be sat in for a long time, while you’re operating a vehicle. A bit like what we’re doing in our simpits, yeh? There’s only the problem of getting the stick right if you have it centermounted. For a viperlike setup with a sidestick, they are perfect. Just make sure to roll it down to viperlike levels as well

One advantage I can think of for a car seat over an office chair is that it doesn’t swivel. I really wish my gaming chair had a swivel lock.

New toy arrived! This is the temporary setup that’s probably going to stay that way far too long lol. I made bindings for the F-18, and it works superbly. Suddenly the HDG bug has become an actually useful tool, as well as the UFC keypad. The gear handle is gloriously tactile, as is that big jettison button.

I started to part out a similar button box, but soon found out I could not make it any cheaper myself and the quality would be way, way inferior to the totalcontrols.eu solution. So I just ordered it. Assembling the thing took some doing, as the dobber switch up top needed a little more force than I thought appropriate, but with a little encouragement from the builder, I rammed the b’stard home.

Edit: Just flew the viper for a bit. Oh my what a difference that makes in user comfort!

but only the quality one. there are also uncomfortable cheap seats form base model of cars. you were warned

The cool thing about tractor passenger seats is that they’re rarely used … I don’t think I have to worry too much about ass sweat after I give it a good upholstery cleaning. The dirt you can see on the left side of the seat is just dirt and dust from the driver’s hands as he has to grab it for whatever reason.

Another good thing is the armrests ratchet up or down. I grabbed it today and it looks pretty mint from the underside. I’m pretty sure I’m going to find a nice use for that box it’s sitting on … maybe stick a subwoofer in there for some buttKicker type of effects.

One more question that @schurem made me wonder … how high do you have your seats adjusted? My current office chair feels pretty comfortable at 18 inches.

Mine is raised about 12cm in the front and 7 in the back. If I take my feet off the pedals, my knees are at almost 90 degrees.
