Show us your sim pit!

I envision the same thing someday in my future, a dedicated room in my house/shop arrayed with simpits.

I’ve done the Authentikit Spitfire which scratches my itch there, although I would love to build a full blown HFS Spitfire someday.

I bought a copy of the plans this summer, they’re truly beautiful. And the kit is reasonably priced.

A Viggen would definitely be on the top of my list, if someone released plans. And maybe a stick… hmmmm…?

I too would love to build one of the heritage spitfires…
even though Im a rotor jock & do very little fixed wing & when i do its normally only in the A10
theres just something about making one of the spitty pits that is truly appealling.
But EU250 is a bit rich for me…

On another note entirely I’ve stopped patroning the ED forums, since i was blocked …
apparently anyone who doesnt gush shamelessly over their fkn clouds & actually calls them out on bugs/issues that are pushing a decade old aren’t tolerated.

So ED has seen their last $ from me. I wont spend anymore money (~AUD$1K to date) until they actually start improving, improving perfmance, fixed known issues & especially improving the manner in which they treat the user community.

Still a drop in the bucket money wise for ED but the online squadron I fly with, 20 at the time, quit buying ED modules for the same lack of bug fixes for long existing problems. Lol, the fact that they blocked our squadron CO from their forums for pointing out long term bugs that weren’t being addressed was what finally pushed the decision to the forefront.

Same, I called out Mi8 issues that have been known for 8 years+ & several community members have submitted fixes/workarounds for - all ignored.

but the clouds move!

it’s sad really, I enjoy flying MP, have met some grand fellows…
but theres only so much hardware you can throw at a software problem …

It’s even gotten to the point I’m actually considering converting to a (filthy) fixed wing
& jumping ship to IL2.
At least VR is an advantage there, not a frame stuttering hinderance.

Man, Next Level Racing has some NICE STUFF! This just showed up in my feed …

Yeah, I’ve seen those. I could get one through an Aust distributor for A$1200 (+ shipping).

Have to say it was very tempting - but I am going to build my own. When I go into town next week to pick up the Honeycomb Bravo, I will swing by the auto wreckers and see what seats they have.

Pretty impressive price points on those Next Level rigs. I’m tempted as well. They pretty much cover all the Flight Sim gear manufactures too! I could easily use it as an auto racing rig as well.

one of the blokes on the build forum is starting with this to mount his G-seat on.
Next Level Racing Flight Cockpit frame (Boeing Military Edition).

it does look very nice…

Really versatile! That is one beautiful piece of kit.

EDIT: Thanks for the heads up on that Boeing Military Edition @gadget. I can’t resist … I’m in the process of finding the best retailer to buy it from …

I’ve got an old next level racing F1-GT Lite that I’ve built my flight sim cockpit atop of. Though it’s obviously not perfect for a flight simming rig it’s well made and nicely modular. I like them.

I know I am replying to my own post

but… I was going to build my own sim pit, I actually really wanted to, but building out of metal was too expensive. Even though I am pretty good with a MIG or stick welder the cost of material (plus the weight) ruled that out.

So, I looked into the cost of materials to make something similar to the Next Level Racing seat out of wood. Even though I have all the necessary tools (circular saw, router, drills, etc) to make it out of what I wanted (marine 5 ply, hardwood bearers, etc) added up to about $300, then there was paint, fasteners and so forth that brought it to closer to $400-$450 and I still needed a seat. Here is the kick in the guts, even the cheapest POS car seat from the wreckers is going to cost $100! And $300 - $400 if I want a ‘good’ one :frowning:

Therefore. Looking at having to spend $700 - $850 plus a ‘few’ hours labour, with the permission from SWMBO I have just hit the ‘buy now’ button on one of these:

Bienvenue au Mudspike @yannick!

I also love the Mirage 2000C! Great choice to fly it exclusively, I’m sure I could learn a lot from you. (I switch aircraft too often)

Although we all occasionally fall back to our native tongue in some short phrases or inside jokes, this is an ‘anglophone’ forum. So please try to express yourself in English so most of our fellow Spikers can understand.

Pour les photos, je pense que c’est une limitation automatiquement imposé sur les utilisateurs nouveaux.

You could either stick around and read some more topics to elevate your privileges or we can ask @Troll nicely to up your privilege. I don’t think he speaks French though.

Welcome to Mudspike, @yannick! :mudspike:
As Freak mentions, this is essentially an english language forum.
You are only allowed one picture per post, in the beginning, and I think none in the first post. Try posting just one image in a post.

@tempusmurphy asked me to post some pix of my latest addition to the simpit. It’s a www.totalcontrols.eu multi-purpose button box. Has exactly the same footprint of the warthog throttle unit. All of the buttons, plenty to do UFC work for both the viper and the hornet.

Punching in coords gets real easy, as well as switching radio channels (I do that a lot, flying mostly SP)

But the best ones are the nice big tactile gear handle and the big red jettison button. Love it!

I started parting out a button box like this, seeing what a couple encoders, a keypad, a directional, etc would set me back. With a controller board included, I came almost to the price those Swedes are asking for their box, and the thing I would build would have all kinds of teething problems, be fugly as heck and probably break. So it became a bit of a no-brainer financially, having already decided I “needed” a button box to punch in coords and extend the gear.

That is so cool. Does the gear handle lock?
