So, Who's Got COVID?

That’s rotten luck. I once tested positive on two different viruses after my doctor wanted to get to the bottom of why I didn’t get well. Had light flu symptoms that dragged on and on for weeks…

I feel for you! Get well!

Swift recovery, Troll.

One of the girls in my GFs class tested positive on Friday afternoon. She said she spent quite some time that day with that girl, with a mask on but we’re not sure what’s going to happen.

The mother of the girl had apparently been sick all week and only after 5 days did she come up with the idea to take a test. Then the siblings took a test and all turned up positive. Some people.

Probably going to spend at least the beginning of next week in home office to see if the GF turns up positive in the next few days. My new boss’ girlfriend is pregnant ATM so I’m not going to take any chances.

Of course with her being a teacher, my GF can’t turn in sick/isolate until she actually tests positive.

Update here in Texas. Daughter (who is fully vax’ed) got the new strain. Sick for a few days, now fine. My office had to close for a few days because of the infection rate. No deaths like it was before, just lots and lots of sick people.

I think we are well past the point where it is containable. The problem is that people, by nature are generally social creatures who don’t like being told what to do. I think we are just going to have to learn to live with the virus, much as we live with influenza (which killed millions of people not too long ago)…

So sorry to hear HiFlyer. Hoping that your sister is discharged soon. How is she doing?

I agree @PaulRix.

What I don’t understand is South Africa. Two major variants originated there including Omicron and yet the effects have been mild. It is a multicultural nation with areas of dense population. The current climate is temperate so the opportunities for transmission should be high. And vaccine penetration is lower than the US and Europe.

Eh. Could not reach her this morning. Probably getting tests done.

The major problem is that she also has pneumonia. She sounded better yesterday/last night, but this might take a while.

I’m not sure if it is clear where Omicron originated, the South Africans were just the first to document cases because they do a lot of sequencing of the virus RNA in infected people.

With regard to the effects being mild, as far as I am aware, previous COVID waves have done a number on the sick and elderly in SA, so effects of recent waves being mild is a result of previous waves doing the survival-of-the-fittest thing.

Isn’t one of the biggest factors of mortality obesity? I don’t know this to be true…but perhaps South Africa doesn’t have as big an issue with that? Just spitballing that theory…

Selfmedicated a couple of glasses of red wine on saturday evening. Went to bed at about 19, with 38-39° fever. Woke up at about 03 feeling great! Feels like the worst part is over. Red wine cures Covid: Confirmed! Will probably deal with some residual symptoms like coughing, for some time. I usually do after dealing with a flu as well. Seems to trigger some light asthma with me.
Our daughter has been fine for a couple of days now, and her 6 day isolation ends today. Guess she can go to school tomorrow. Her mother still tests negative! She’s been isolating with us, just waiting to get it herself. I guess the virus respects a PhD in Microbiology…

In Italy almost everyone that was part of our circle of friend is either positive or sick and getting tested but quite sure it’s COVID.

So far we kept the virus at bay here in Germany- I can totally do without it.
It’s jus that it gets closer…

I’m not scared- It’s just annoying and sometimes watching the people behave so recklessly is really upsetting.

I would speculate that this is one of the problems. people many times just ignore the symptoms.

speedy recovery to all! take care and time to fully recover.

It is embarrassing but that’s me in early 2020.

I didn’t have Covid but I was massively in denial.
If I had had it I would have infected ten people or so.
I was glad that the test was negative. It was only a cold, so I was right after all. But it could have been Covid and then I would have been called an idiot, and rightfully so.
