Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Oh cmon, EA is the IBM of computer games. Everything they touch turns to **** in their hands. DICE, BioWare all once acclaimed studios that now churn out mainly inconsequential fluff. Which is why i find it so interesting that this project went down differently.

It’s good!

It’s very, very good!

What with The Madalorian and now this, Star Wars is turning a corner and getting back to greatness.

Their previous model was “force the Golden Goose to lay all its eggs at once, until it starts laying silver eggs, then bronze eggs, then once it starts laying steaming piles instead of eggs, kill the goose and find another one.”

With Star Wars they’re realizing (very late) that the core fan base is very different in terms of loyalty, and as we’re mostly older, we will happily go back to playing the old games being hosted on GOG and bypass the steaming piles they’re laying, thinking we’re the same as the Modern Warfare crowd.

Oh i don’t know. Financially it seems they cruised pretty comfortably throughout this SW Battlefront PR fiasco. It is way too early to actually state that there has been a paradigm shift within EA. There’s just too much history of them being not interested in the users actual experience (once they have parted with their money).

But i will grant that this release appears to try to do everything right. For now i will credit that to the dev studio doing their thing and EA not doing their usual thing. Let’s hope that post release patch 2 we don’t get lootboxes.

Was watching a stream… He holds that saber very oddly, or at least it looks so from the behind view. Also what is wrong with his legs? Super weird run.

Wow… that game REALLY looks good!

Small tidbit, Metacritic ratings of 84 and 8.4.

I took a photo at exactly the same place in the first photo. Loved the section climbing around the old star destroyers.

Oooooh, old AT-TE’s, LAAT’s, and a Venator? Dangit, this is pulling all my Star Wars nerd strings, and I wouldn’t even be able to play it for another 3 weeks.

Dammit I totally forgot to take screenshots.
I like the game very much so far. Played a few hours on the third difficulty level.

The Temple at Zeffo is really a sight to behold… I’ve got some creepy Moria vibes from the Lord of the Rings

The crew coming together.

Welcome to Kashyyyk

…but how is the lightsaber/ force powers combat, compared to Jedi Outcast or Jedi Academy?

What I have read is that it draws heavily from Dark Souls. It looks pretty nice, even though i gotta admit i absolutely loved the mechanics of the old games.

Different.
Stormtroopers are no joke in this game if they come from different directions and if there are more than ~4 of them. In JK they were cannon fodder (a Star Wars trope I never really liked).
Blocking is much more important than in JK, and - at least initially - you don’t have access to a lot of Force Powers and (in contrast to JK) you cannot use other weapons. So you have to fight more carefully and ranged enemies cannot be defeated that easily (you have to reflect their bolts manually).
In a fight you have to choose between hit and run or charging in and fight multiple enemies at once. And if you charge in you might find yourself surrounded, which is dangerous.
The animations are pretty great, Cal attacks into the direction you are pressing the keys while attacking.
The force powered attacks feel powerful.

I like it so far.
I wouldn’t call it better or worse than JK right now. It is just different.

Have you had a bossfight yet?

Proper bosses: One world boss but I couldn’t win so I went elsewhere.
Otherwise: no. But minibosses like those temple guardians and some larger creatures can be hard enough already.
