Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Long story. TL;DR:
During that time the censorship was hard on first person shooters, as they were “realistic killing simulators” and “glorifying violence” and - most importantly - video games were not protected by the constitution as being art, as they were not recognized as art (unlike movies).
That led to absurd things like that the James Bond Goldeneye game on N64 was banned for glorifying violence while the movie was FSK12 (allowed to be watched by 12 year olds).
Even games without blood or severed body parts were often censored or banned completely, just because they were first person shooters.

DK1 was ‘indexed’, which is a kind of a soft ban to protect minors. It is still legal to sell, buy, own and play for adults, but (similar to porn) has to be sold ‘under the counter’ to persons that can prove they are over 18 and displaying advertising or testing games in game magazines is forbidden.
So most stores don’t have those products at all. Too much hassle and harsh punishments for stores that break the law.

That worked pretty well before the Internet. In 1997 I had no clue that Jedi Knight (it got a USK18 rating, so it was allowed to be sold openly, still not to minors) was Dark Forces 2. I knew nobody who even knew DK1 existed.
IIRC the German box of JK omitted that part of the title to avoid being censored for being a sequel to a banned game.

There are mods for that, and they’re compatible with the GoG release.

Yeah I know. It is just… dunno. Maybe I am just not the retro gamer I used to be.
There once was a nice remake of DF in the engine of Jedi Academy in the works. Sad that it never got finished.

So who has finished this so far? I’m not done myself, but i’ve seen estimates between 20-30 hours or so, wonder if anyone is done about how long it took them

I am about 20 hours in and still far from finished.
But then I like to take my time and look at everything.

I have two planets at ~85% (seems like I am missing a skill to explore more, I just cannot reach some areas), one at 21% and one at 37% so still a lot to see and do.

I am also in the process of switching my fighting style more toward blocking instead of dodging. It makes some enemies considerably easier.

Also it is cool how… uhmm… I don’t want to spoil anything but let’s say the game has a few surprises ready.

Very pleased.

Guess you can definitely do things in various different ways, at @16 hours I have my planets at 79%, 87%, 65% and 0% lol.

Yeah I went to Dathomir pretty early, to check out what is going on there.
It was worth it since I found something very useful there.

Few more shots non-spoilers

Not a perfect review, but I wonder how many of his issues are because he ran it on PS4? (Doesn’t bode well for me - I’m planning to get it for PS4 :scream::crossed_fingers:)

I did hear that the PS4 version has some problems that the PC one doesn’t have.

At least one is game breaking:
Don’t go to Dathomir too early and do a jump over some big chasm that you can barely make. It is not intended and you will get stuck and have to start a new game.

Going to Dathomir in itself is OK, I was there relatively early. But if you go and you are on PC, backup your game file before that.

All other bugs on PS4 can be slightly annoying (like texture loading and enemies popping in, but from what I read bot game breaking at least.

The PC version is nearly bug free though.
And again I have to say I am surprised what cool content the game throws at me right now. Awesome game.
I fricking hate some enemy types though, I am just bad against those.

Didn’t even consider how playing it on a PS4 would be, I have the Pro and after playing on PC, I’m not sure how that one would handle it, let alone an original version. I could imagine there would be more issues, or a potato for a PC

“Fallen Order is a stunning looking game…not quite as good as Battlefront…the presentation as a whole is immaculate…” So the Battlefront games looked better than immaculate? silly reviewer.

I didn’t encounter any visual issues, flickering or the like, but did have one crash. The only gripe I can really come up with is that I was done in 25 hours and I honestly wasted a few hours of that messing around. You could probably 100% it in that time, or maybe at most 30 hours. But after that, I’m not sure there is much reason to play it again. (the middle did drag slightly, but not much).

I did really enjoy it and it kept me wanting to play, which is more than I can say for most games these days!

I am still on Kashyyyk (second time).
I agree that the replay value won’t be really high, but I still feel the game is worth it.

Which difficulty level are y’all playing on, btw?

the 3rd hardest, don’t remember the name of it

They are:

  • Story mode
  • Jedi Knight
  • Jedi Master
  • Jedi Grand Master

I play on Jedi Master.

But people recommend that when you are done you should definitely try out the Story Mode because you feel like a god. I’ll try it out when I am finished.

Btw I like how the life and number of enemies stays the same on all levels.
The difficulty levels just change the length of the parrying window, how aggressive the enemies are, and how much damage you take from them.

IMO that’s a clever system.
That way you don’t get ridiculous things like in some first person shooters where you shoot a person in the face four times with a gun and they don’t die because in hard mode they have more life.

Although… I think I would like it if they added more enemies. I feel so epic running through whole groups of bugs or so, cutting them into ribbons…

I have it on PS4 and have had no problems.

I took Jedi Knight and even THEN I get my ass handed to me at times.

Don’t feel bad, many of us are just too old.
I am surprised that I can play on Jedi Master.

Just finished the game. Everything on 100%
I almost changed the difficulty for the last boss fight. That one was tough.

I really liked it. I have a few nitpicks such as the loot and the fact that I think it is weird that a Jedi replenishes Force by attacking and killing enemies, but overall that was a solid game.

Sadly I also didn’t see the last two plants grow, as I went to the point of no return so I had finished the game before they grew.

Overall I spent 38 hours in it.

what did you think of… (spoilers inc.)

The ending, felt pretty anticlimactic to have to basically just run away and that was that. Plus it was pretty much the same as Rogue One, run away from Vader with information in your hands lol. I still liked it, just could have done with a little more actually doing something at the end

(Spoiler Alert)
