Can’t watch the video right now, but… judging by who reviewed it (I know, not fair) I guess he not quite hates the game? But calls it unoriginal and/or sees some conspiracy theory behind it?
Dunno, it really seems a fair review to me.
I like his style, which while obviously overblown- it does goes straight to the point.
sometimes tainted by personal preference but I think I’ve never seen a video from this guy that wasn’t honest.
For me he is a tad too… hyperbolic usually, but at least he expresses his opinion clearly.
I can’t figure out the parry mechanics.
There are three ways:
-
just hold the parry button all the time. This should block all attacks except the ones where the enemy turns red. You will lose a bit of your blocking stamina with each attack. This works for attacks from all directions but will not reflect attacks or trigger counter attack windows. If your stamina runs out you cannot block anymore and should dodge. Always dodge red attacks of course.
-
Don’t hold the parry button. Press it shortly, no holding, just before the attack hits.
Edit: on second thought… I think you may hold it afterwards and nothing bad will happen. Just don’t hold it too early.
In the case of blaster bolts that is 2 meters (6 feet) or so before they hit you. For melee attacks it is a bit harder to judge as it depends on the speed the enemy swings his weapon. This is called the parry window, and its size depends on the difficulty level you are playing on.
If you parry successfully it will make your enemies stumble or something, making them vulnerable for one or two fast attacks, so tap your attack button when it happens. In some cases (perfect parries) it even triggers an immediately deadly attack, which will usually be in some cinematic slow-mo amd look epic. -
There is an obtainable skill that will make you always parry while running. Works like #1 otherwise.
Important: #2 parries cannot be spammed, so if several attacks come in shortly after another (for example 4 Stormtroopers firing at you simultaneously) you can’t just “double-click” the parry, it won’t work. In that case you are better off dodging or doing a #1 parry and retreat a step or two, waiting for the next attack to parry. Enemies don’t sync their attacks so the next attacks will most likely not come in at the same time.
I just noticed I haven’t answered that yet.
The answer is: yes, it felt a bit railroad-ish. It was cool to see that guy and of course you have to run, everything else would have been silly.
It was OK in my opinion, but I would also have liked to have more to do.
Here’s a quick piece about the recent update that came out of the blue. The most interesting thing he says is that a sequel is definitely in the works (yay!)
My son says the game is unforgiving but so good you simply cannot quit playing. I suck at those types of games but I’m quite tempted to buy it based on his recommendations.
I agree. I actually think this is my favourite SW game of all time, which is saying something considering I grew up playing the Dark Forces / Jedi Knight and X-Wing / Tie Fighter series.
I have completed it on the second hardest difficulty, now I’m half way through on the highest difficulty setting (Jedi Grandmaster). On this level even the more routine enemies can be challenging when in groups, but it is very satisfying gameplay.
Kudos to Respawn for getting just about everything just about right (in my opinion). I’m now looking forward to the sequel.
My buddy hates this game.
I was shocked when he told me.
Game of the Year 2019 for me. Almost as good as my beloved Jedi Knight games.
I can’t understand how it is possible not to like it.
It looks like a Tomb Raider but plays more like a Dark Souls. Most melee adventure games don’t really need any practise or tactics, as the fighting is usually only there to move the story along, while in J:FO it’s part of the appeal.
Great game but… spiders. Too bad loved the first couple of worlds but I just can’t enjoy it from Khasyyk on. I tried but it’s a no go.
It would be a shame not to finish the story, I think they can be avoided.

You can indeed avoid most of them.
For those that you cannot avoid you might turn down difficulty to the lowest level, close your eyes and click like crazy. It might just work.
It depends a bit on your level of phobia. Some people can look at them from afar (like when other monsters kill them, which is a possibility in some fights, at least on low difficulty) or even fight them as long as they don’t get jumped by them and know what will come.
I don’t know what your level is concerning the phobia so it is hard to give good advice.
More or less like with my mother-in-law…
Well that’s an interesting aspect to consider in games design. Would it help if they reskinned them so they are mechanical spiders? IDK how arachnophobia works.
In moddable games people came up with some cool solutions. Either replacing them with other enemies, or just with less realistic models (might break immersion for a short time but works for them).
As for phobia in general: it is a bit of a situation where the developer cannot win, sadly.
While removing/altering/omitting spiders is rather easy, others are much worse, like for example removing deep chasms or climbing up high in a game (to allow people with acrophobia to enjoy them) or avoid narrow spaces to do the same for claustrophobic people.
It is especially hard in mixed genre games (like Fallen Order is) because literally everything can happen in a Star Wars game.
In zombie horror games everyone knows that they contain zombies so they can avoid the game if they have a phobia of them.
Aviophobics can avoid flight sims and so on.
But this is damn hard for the developers.
If I ever make a movie it’s going to feature spiders coming out of a TV screen, like that scene in The Ring, but spiders.
Anyway, here i thought that the real issues with spiders in video games was that they are always the most obnoxious enemies ever, regardless of the game. Guess I was wrong.
