This is the only module I have ever been legit impatient for.

As expected, Reflected’s all over the Mossie.

And it’s landed…

Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends,

We are excited to announce the release of DCS: Mosquito FB VI into Early Access. Our team has been working tirelessly to bring you this highly realistic simulation not only from the point of view of the visuals, performance and sound, but especially from the point of view of FM and systems modelling as well the new advanced damage system. We are confident that this will set a new standard for our WWII aircraft and we are keen to receive your feedback

So when’s the fly in

Very sensitive in pitch. I used both curves and lowered saturation to give it a little more control harmony. The Merlins are throaty. The cannon is boom-y. I’m still not sure if I will ever fly the thing again but it’s a lovely bit of aviation history and I am happy to have experienced it.

I know that I am going to fly it a lot. So many missions for some good coop flights and once it shows up on the SoW server we want to raid some German Airfields.

I would love a larger, maybe less detailed map to keep costs and development time in check. England, Netherlands, Lower Rhine, Ruhr Area or Denmark and Norway. Something like that.

Reflected’s campaign is sure to be epic.

I gave both a curve of 30 seems it might like it a bit higher. I only got 30 mins in today and managed to land it. It’s really nice and powerful and I can’t wait to master it enough to use it properly

Have you guys tried the Channel map free flight mission and tried to fly in formation with the AI? I’m having a dickens of a time keeping from overtaking them.

RPM to ~2500, Throttle almost at idle works quite well in that mission

The Cockpit is a work of art btw. ED has done a magnificent job. One of their best.

Edit: Can stay in formation easily, just above idle throttle:

That curve setting made a world of difference for me.

Well, my only disappointment with the Mossie so far is the lack of delayed fusing. It’s impossible to use it as intended without fragging yourself.

ED decided to completely rework how fuzes and cluster munitions function, that’s why this hasn’t been fixed for so long. But yes, it severely hampers the Mosquito so hopefully it’ll be done soon™

Finally got around to update DCS between the home improvement chores…
Did a couple of familiarization flights in the Mossie.

What a glorious aircraft!! I’m in love! Now, I have a special place in my heart for De Havilland aircraft, so I am biased.

Did some engine out flying as well. Shut down the starboard engine and feathered it. Then I did some slowflights and stalls. I don’t know the Vmc speed for the Mossie, but I went all the way back to stall buffet, and gunned the live engine. Sure enough, I had no rudder authority left. Stall recovery when flying one engine out is counter intuitive in that you must idle the live engine, get the nose down to build speed above Vmc, and only then add power again. I’d say the behaviour is believeable… Granted, I have never flown a real Mossie. I found single engine slow speed handling to be good. But down in the pattern, with gear and flap out, you need to be careful! Don’t get low and slow!

Going to have a lot of fun with this one!

One thing though, I’m not fond of virtual lever locks like you find on the gear and flap levers. If I want to use physical controllers I need to map a button to this lock function even if my gear lever has a physical lock… Realism and all, I know. But a hazzle for users with physical controllers.

I tried setting RPM to 2500, but still gradually overtaking the other two a/c, which seem to be programmed to 250 indicated, if I stay above the warning horn. What does work well for me is setting the right engine to just above the audible warning, then manipulating the left engine throttle to stay in tight formation.

I assigned a button near each switch, or lever in the case of the landing gear, to toggle the respective locks, and it’s becoming pretty automatic to hit those.

Likewise. I flew around the channel map for a couple of hours in VR last night playing with control setup and just enjoying the feeling of sightseeing, while nestled between the nurturing rumble of twin Merlins. I’m so happy that ED management decided to take time to bring the Mossie to what they felt is an acceptable state. She deserves much care, and you can tell that she received it. Lucky for us. It will be interesting to compare the IL-2 GB version, which shouldn’t be too much longer in the making.

FYI, for VR pilots I found out that the Special setting to snap the pilot to center position by turning on the gunsight is irrelevant.

We’re I not in the middle of the Blue Nosed Bastards campaign, I’d be flying her exclusively. But being a 352nd Mustang pilot isn’t a bad gig either!

Yeah, but still… Seems unnecessary to me to assign controls to these tasks. Just like the starter and coil switch covers. I wish there was a control bind that bypassed these locks and covers.

Well, I hope you’re all happy with yourselves as you’ve all made me buy it! That’s my story to the ‘boss’ and I’m sticking to it…

To whom it may concern,

I accept full responsibility for @Mace’s purchase of the DCS: Mosquito module.
I, and others, made him buy it.

Sincerely
