Same here…
I could get much more on DOCSIS but then i’m at my ISPs and fellow users mercy regarding bandwidth, and the ISP offering DOCSIS over here has a bad reputation for underprovisioning the last mile infrastructure. At least with DSL i get a small but guaranteed bandwidth.
Anyways, anybody got some experience with hosting in the cloud?
It’s less about speed and more about stability, although you need the latter to get the former.
Even 10Mbps both ways could do, so long as nobody tried to watch Netflix at the same time!
I would give a leg for getting half that upstream.
I know some of the guys looked at using AWS to host, but it was expensive even using an on-demand style plan due to the RAM and CPU usage.
Plus you have to have room for the DCS server install, which still includes all the maps (if you intend to use them).
We’re not blessed with upload speed here either, that’s for business users!
I’ll monitor network traffic next run and see what real world numbers are like.
All that aside, i think our main issue is less server availability than getting together. There are enough public servers that offer ok-ish pings for EU users, it’s just a matter of coordinating the people that are principally interested.
To be honest we could still Hollo Pointe or whatever… just meeting is the tough part.
Raises hand. I am! Been busting bots for long enough now, would love to get some human company in my flying.
I added roles for NA and EU to HP discord. I can add you guys to the Europe role and then you can ping the Europe role to see who’s available, if that helps!
Yeah that would be great, thanks!
Spectacular! Thanks!
No problemo!
I got you three so far in the Europe role so you can tag away.
Only thing left to do is overcome my social awkwardness and fear of speaking in a voice room.
As a non-native english speaker (and Italian above all) I’m seriously afraid.
Get out of here! You speak better English than me! Lol
I wouldn’t have know you were Italian if you didn’t talk about pasta and pizza all the time
Well the worst part potentially is the language barrier, which is a lot easier to work past on voice.
I once played FSX with a guy from Brazil.
I had FSX on one monitor, and google translate on the other. Was good fun!
As far as I recall from last year when we met on TeamSpeak (Glory days! TS3 FTW!) your English is absolutely fine.
I have another problem.
I don’t want to use discord…
Do you mean for comms or all together? If you are referring to comms SRS is available on the server.
and @Aginor…
The part about not wanting to use discord I seen it around but never discovered.
I admit its interface is kinda odd and all but it’s a very good VOIP.
I avoid Discord altogether.
(Mainly for privacy reasons, like most other social networks)
SRS is fine.
