I wore contacts for many years, but a few years ago I needed bifocals, which wasn’t available with astigmatism correction, so I had to either use contacs and reading glasses, or go for glasses with bifocal lenses. Now there are contacs with astigmatism correction (toric) that are bifocal. They are quite expensive though…
Will be interested t hear. I read one review that suggested the Aero was easy to scratch with spectacles (so hope you don’t damage your headset). I do have contacts, but its a pain to have to put them on just to play. My Rift-S fits my glasses really well.
Ugh … wearing glasses AND VR goggles kinda makes my skin crawl. I’ve tired it … no fun … especially trying to quickly put the goggles on or take them off.
I found out at a very young age that wearing glasses and doing any sort of sport or activity sucked. I really appreciated contacts when I started to play hockey since I only had to worry about defogging the visor on my helmet and I didn’t need a rubber band to keep my glasses on when I got hit LOL! Even jogging or hiking or whatever, I can wear any sunglasses I want.
As for astigmatism, I think I remember my optometrist mentioning that I had it. This is what she recommended …
Sorry, I fired off the above post before reading your last post.
Although I wear multifocal lenses, I don’t recommend them as it’s still a bit hard to read the fine print. If I were you I’d only use cheap regular nearsighted contact lenses with VR since you don’t need the bifocal aspect for VR. Keep using your glasses for aviating or wear the contacts and keep a pair of reading glasses chained around your neck I guess.
That’s a good point…
Although I wish I could do without the glasses. Especially now in winter and wearing facemask…! Actually, I wish I could do without the facemask!
I did try some non-multi-focal contacts but I’m pretty shortsighted, so I couldn’t read a damn thing with them in (like checking a manual or map with the goggles off). I didn’t think of then getting a cheap pair of reader spectacles, but that sounds like it could help… Cheers
Wow….
Utter disapointment.
I can’t even get the headset to fit my head.
I haven’t even turned the thing on, and I’m already thinking this was mistake.
I have worn the Oculus Rift CV1, the Rift S and the Reverb G2, all of which fit my noggin just fine.
The Varjo Aero is by far the most uncomfortable headset I have tried on.
I didn’t see that coming. The headset strap looks really clever, with its two adjustable bands and display tilt.
If I put it on, with the neck band below the occipital bone, I have to tilt the display all the way up or the pressure on my forehead and cheekbones is too hard. Plus, if I tilt my head up, the neck band shifts as the neck arcs.
I’m litterally dumbfounded… I must be doing something wrong. They can’t seriously mean that this is the way you’re supposed to wear this headset…?
Also… Light leaks galore! I get light from the tempels, the nose area and even through the fan outlet.
Edit. That light leak wasn’t from the fan air outlet. It’s from a seam in the facial interface. Only on the right hand side.
I imagined a totally different wow factor, with the Varjo Aero
Maybe It’s something I need to get used to?
I’ll sleep on it. The fitting problem, not the headset.
That may help with positioning to get a clear picture, but there’s something not right with how this headset fits. The display can be tilted up or down, in relation to the strap. But even if I tilt it all the way up, I need to pull the neck strap as low as possible, on the back of my head, or the display will press down on my cheekbones. And with the neck strap sitting that low, I can’t look up without the strap being pushed up by the neck.
But the fit is so poor that I’m left with a feeling that I must be missing something…
Yeah… I tried getting access there, a while ago. Maybe you can tell me what I need to do?
I read the FAQ and clicked like, which I assume is the button they say I must press, because I can’t see any other clickable object.
Then I answered the questions in the #entrance. But I still have padlocks on all the discussions.
That’ll just mean ‘text limited’ but I think you can still post in channels. I just mashed all the buttons in entrance just now and I can post ok. (they don’t know I don’t own one, so don’t squeal on me! )
Varjo Support replied in an hour that they have forwarded my issue to the ergonomics design team
The return policy is for unused products only, so I won’t turn my Aero on unless I can sort out the fitting issues. And, quite frankly, I don’t see how I can get it to fit, without serious modifications.
I hope they consider my unit to be unused, after just testing the fit…
