Video Card Price Watch

It has been my experience that most of the DP->HDMI converters struggle with 4K.

With the prices coming down, how much improvement would a 1080 yield over a 1070?

The answer is tied to resolution.

If you are gaming in 1080P only then not that much. The 2gb more of video memory will help with smoothing stutters but it will be an incremental upgrade.

If you are moving up to 1440 or 4k / VR then it will be a more noticable upgrade.

The extra vram is get for flight sims if you’re loading tons of custom scenery and stuff.

But yes, Tanker’s post is correct.

Just checked uk prices on that evga card. Comparable price here in the uk but instead of dollars its pounds. Fricken hate that, its like a 30+ percent increase. Grrrrrrr.

Holding out at least another month here, 20 series is right around the corner, best current guess is mid June

I just read it’s rumored to get 16gbs of VRAM. That’s insane.

Is all that ram like a digital wallet to stick all that imaginary crypto currency in?

I think I’ve made the call tonight to get a 1070 / 1070 Ti / 1080 -range card in the near future…but going to do what Mudcat is doing and wait it out a bit longer.

Just to put a peg on the ground here - as at today:

EVGA GeForce GTX1080 SC 8GB - $999 NZD ($693 USD)
EVGA GeForce GTX1070Ti SC 8GB - $899 NZD ($624 USD)
ASUS ROG Strix GeForce GTX1070 8GB - $873 ($606 USD)

in The Netherlands GPU’s are still slightly above launch price point. Two years ago… Rather insane to me to be honest!

Keep in mind that the new generation is coming in July. Might be worth waiting for that to come out and then decide. The 1070ti is no doubt a good card, but depending on launch prices, the 20 series (or will it be 11?) May be a better value.

Pretty sure I will do exactly that, and then either get a 1080 or 1080ti cheaper or get the xx70 of the new generation if it has roughly the same performance.

PSA. I’ll be selling a 1 yr old 1070 in July. Mudspike discount.

All I can say is I tested today’s market for used 1070’s (mine is two years old) by listing it at $550cad a couple weeks ago. $450 seemed to be the sweet spot.

Did it sell?

Tomorrow at 10am. If he doesn’t show I have another buyer for later in the day … but he is going to show because I have another buyer for later in the day.
