I have a bunch of family and some friends over today to the house for a Mexican cookout…and I picked up The Blu specifically for this. They are all totally blown away. For people that have never been in a VR headset…it is a simple demo…but beautiful (especially if your whole family are snorkelers)… A little pricey for what is essentially a demo…but worth it to hook people in as to how cool VR is…
I bet your arm would get mighty tired hold that controller like that for any extended period of time. *missed the part where he had it on a floor mount
I got pCars and played it for about a month and a half. I was really into it. Then I got Assetto Corsa. At first I thought it was all eye candy. Then I saw all the car settings and I quickly fell in love with the sim. Its better looking and IMO more accurate than pCars. The tracks feel bigger, look better and are harder to master. I just wish there were more 70s F1 cars. But there is no turning back.
pCars is a great beginner racing sim and AC is more of a older guy sim. Ive been having a blast with the Lotus 98t. This car took nearly 10 seconds off my lap time over the Lotus 72… WOW! Last night while I was going for a personal best lap time, I was bouncing down the road terrified at how fast I was moving and hoping that I would not spin out at any moment. My heart was in my throat as I slid while upshifting and jerked the car back online… In the middle of all this my mind said… “Wow, how did we get here?” It really is a great time to be into pc gaming.
Yeah, calling it “arcade-ish” was a bit harsh - let’s say it just didn’t convince me (talking of AC). This was a very early release version, though, and it’s possible it has been improved since. I do have it installed, just in case I get invited for a race, though I don’t think my current Steam friends are into racing.
Anyone do this in VR? Is it playable, as in performance and gameplay are actually ok, as can’t quite recall but heard there were issues? But it’s cheap, so curious to give it a go…
My Rift arrived last week while I was TDY to SLC and Phoenix. I’m unboxing tonight and installing.
Any tips on set up or config? Obviously DCS as my main sim. P3D v3.4 isnt VR, as far as I know. ??
I’ve only got a nvidia 980 so my mileage may vary, but my CPU and RAM has enough punch to last a while (i7 6700/32Gig).
In DCS the most commonly used keys are re-center and zoom. Make sure that you have those mapped on your HOTAS and use the graphic setting preset for VR, if you do nothing else.
It’s also good to know the ASW toggle shortcuts, in case you see some weirdness.
CTRL+Numpad1: Disable ASW, go back to the original ATW mode
CTRL+Numpad2: Force apps to 45Hz, ASW disabled
CTRL+Numpad3: Force apps to 45Hz, ASW enabled
CTRL+Numpad4: Enable auto-ASW (default, use this first)
Try turning up pixel density. 1.8 - 2 seems about right.
Some other helpful shortcuts:
dcs.exe --force_enable_VR = launch DCS with VR on or off
dcs.exe --force_disable_VR
RCTRL + RSHFT + KP4,2,6,8 = Moves your eyepoint L,D,R,U respectively
RCTRL + RSHFT + KP*, KPMinus = Moves your eyepoint fore and aft
RALT + KP0 = Saves your current eyepoint position
KP5 Recenters your view
Great game, I usually have really good VR legs, but for some reason Subnautica makes me queasy after just a bit, although I haven’t tried it again in a while, maybe they fixed whatever caused that.
In 2D is it still excellent (assuming you are interested in diving or snorkeling). The developer did a great job creating a believable alien aquatic world. You will lose quite a bit of time to it just exploring, gathering resources and crafting equipment etc etc.
They have an ‘experimental’ branch version on Steam, so opting in to that to see where things are. With early access stuff I just want to play around, and if it’s story based just hang on until it’s baked a bit more anyway.
According to Steam, I have 99 hours invested in it already. It’s fun, even though not quite finished yet. Be careful when exploring the caves, it is easy to get turned around and O2 is limited
It’s fun so far. In VR it could really do with a blink turn option though, as a right stick movement yaw pivot is pretty much guaranteed a ticket to pukeville.
I ran my first DCS flight last night. Took the F-5 around the pattern and formation.
It’s breathtaking, immersion wise. Graphically, so-so. I knew it would be a step back.
I tried mapping my TM throttle button 6 to the numpad 5 (center) but it wont work. DCS recognizes it but the Rift wont center. I have programmed Voice Attack to center, but would prefer the button. TBD…
I’ll map the zoom as well.
For pixel density, I started at 1.5
I plan on creeping that up to see if I stutter.
What is ASW/ATW? And the 45Hz refresh rate? Sorry for the newb questions, but this is a huge leap from TrackIR.
