In DCS you can use the control settings ‘UI Layer’ (it’s at the module level, i.e. just like there is A10C-Sim, there is a UI Layer section) and then map anything like a joystick button to VR Reset and the Zoom - it’s handy on the HOTAS.

Async Space Warp / Async Time Warp are rendering settings within the Rift that make the framerate smoother regardless of how the underlying game/sim is performing. It makes some assumptions about how you are looking around to make up in-between frames that would otherwise be pauses. Essentially it makes things nicer for things that can’t reach the minimum 45 frames per second (as 90 Hz is the natural fixed vsync refresh rate on the Rift LCD panels, it basically shows the same image twice to make it smooth at 45 Hz).

Also, it’s ok to make new topics for questions etc, we don’t have to hide it all in VR News

Ah, Subnautica - yes, had that for a couple of years. When I found out that it was going to get VR, I stopped playing it to wait for my Rift. When I got the Rift and started playing it again, I found that you could only control it with a gamepad in VR - and being one of those who can’t control shooters and the like with a gamepad, I had to go back to 2D, which I played for quite a few hours, about as far as I could get at the time. Much more has been added (and they add loadsa stuff regularly) since and last night I gave it another go.
These days you can use a mouse & keyboard (I think it was originally just gamepad at the behest of Oculus, when it was for sale in Home, due to them trying to promote gamepad control before Touch was released, because Vive owners have always been able to use M&K in VR)
Unfortunately I suffer the same as you, Paul - normally I feel sick, but not enough to bother me too much and I just put up with it. Last night I felt fine and thought “YaY!” but after about 45 minutes I suddenly felt extremely sick.
Oh well… :confounded:

Oh yes - if anyone likes Zombie survival, 7 Days To Die is on sale at about half price, and it’s also getting a major update (in experimental atm) and it’s looking fabulous. They will add VR support down the road - I have checked with the dev twice and they assure me that it will definitely be implemented. I’ve got over 2,030 hours in so far and still not nearly fed up with it - and VR will move it into complete awesomeness!

That’s how I feel. You can see the massive potential there…and when they crack the resolution thing…it is gonna be amazing. Did you feel like I did: “Wow…this seems like it was always meant to be viewed like this…” ? Because that’s how I felt…the layout of the cockpits…the 3D quality…I was like…wow…for all these years this has been waiting to emerge? LOL…

Yes well if they ever solve the resolution challenge, VR will undoubtedly challenge free porn as the primary reason for ordering gigabit fiber.

Pretty much my exact words.

I kept trying to touch switches and tap the canopy glass. Oh and rest my arms on the canopy sill.

last I checked… it was 7-8 GB for the “Oculus” Video files. roflmao…

Yeah…I know I already said it…but my first WOW moment was when I heard my phone ringing on my desk, picked it up, silenced it, and then tried to place it on the virtual glareshield of the RAZBAM Metro I was flying at the time only to have one of those “duh” moments. I didn’t actually drop it thankfully…LOL…

Whenever I put someone in the VR headset and give them a demo like First Contact or something, it is always fun to watch their hands as they reach for stuff…

Mine was when I was pointing out to my GF, a guy buzzing the airfield in a Mirage and my hand smacked the wall right beside me.

VR has made me look pretty stupid, at times…
And I don’t really need VR to look stupid. But now that’s added to the list. :vr:

Ah…the tragedy of the knocked over beer is dear to my heart…

I knocked over quite a few things looking around and leaning in to access/read some switches… haha

There is so much love in these VR threads that it is becoming harder to find the basics for a perspective user.

I’m always ducking so as not to hit my head on virtual objects on the canopy/roof of my aircraft!

Oh - and how many of us have reached for the virtual joystick instead of the real one?

I’m not quite sure what you mean there. Not enough balance in the comments maybe? Or not enough technical substance for a prospective buyer?

btw guys, with reference to those using or thinking about buying motor racing sims, I stumbled across a very good set-up guide a few weeks back - this is the first video, there are 13 in total (despite what he says - it got expanded due to popular demand). You can apply the theory to any game:

I don’t think that much has changed with regard to hardware and drivers in the last few quarters, the technical challenges being what they are. That might be why it seems like there is a dearth of new information. New titles, for sure. But the headsets haven’t change much in 2017.

I got a new headset after a fault developed in my Rift. I got my original in June 2016 and the replacement a couple of months ago.
Whilst there is nothing obviously changed with the hardware, the new headset has performed far better than the first one ever did. Not a single disconnect of any kind and the picture seems much sharper (still not ideal res, but a larger focussed area). This despite the fact that the red tint is far more noticable in blank displays.

I think they have improved a lot “under the hood” as our American cousins would say.

They switched HDMI Cable Manufacturers

Well that was a good move!

Yeah that came off wrong. What I wrote before editing out what I wrote was that a locked FAQ post might be in order. But I didn’t like that because it smacked of telling Mudspike how to run their forum. So instead I wrote something way off in the intended tone. Sorry.
