VTOL VR

What a great name for a fighter!

I have found myself spending way too much time with VTOL VR recently. It works very nicely with my Quest 3. Anyone interested in doing some multiplayer flying with this sim-game?

What time(s) work for you?

Hi Eric… I’m thinking it will have to be in a couple of weeks. I head off for training tomorrow, followed by a trip that will have me on the road for a few days.

Sure. I should probably get reacquainted with it anyway.

Three missions into the ā€œOperation Herrickā€ campaign for the AH-94 inspired by the book by Ed Macy. It’s not DCS but fun in a different way. I know we’ve said it before but I really wish real combat flying machines were as intuitive as they are in VTOL VR!

I just purchased the EF-24. Unfortunately…(LOL…I know…spot the irony) I have to go fly tonight to snowy Cincinnati on a planned patient transfer. I’d definitely be interested in doing some multiplayer in all of the aircraft I haven’t toyed with yet (T-55, AH-94, and EF-24). During my year and half away I barely touched VTOL VR…I still haven’t even fired up the AH-94. I’m sort of waiting now for a first impressions flight…I want to really enjoy it. Same with the EF-24. I want a long session where I can really dig in…

Have a safe flight and see you again soon. :sunglasses:

By ā€œFirst Impressionsā€ do you mean your own or one of us? If the later, I love it. It has a little knob for SAS. Turn that to ā€œoffā€ and it flys like a very fast R22. Turn it to full and it flys convincingly like a modern turbine helicopter minus the need for a lot of pedal. I’d say FM-wise it is right up there with MSFS. It’s a joy to fight with. I would FLAT LOVE to be your front seater while you figure it out!

Enjoy snowy Cincy!

I’ve got less than an hour of flight time, still haven’t even finished the tutorials. I like it, just need to figure out something comfortable for when I have my hand on the control stick. The stick adapter up the way on this thread had occured to me, need to ponder it. So far more of a danger to myself and the landscaping than the enemy, but it’s fun.

I just finished ā€œJudge Dred’sā€ Operation Herrick campaign. Here am I, 10 minutes later, still with a big smile on my face. I would put it up there with some of my favorite DCS campaigns (ā€œRevancheā€, Mi24, most recently). I way prefer the computer generated dialog over the less than great voice acting often found in campaigns. Much of the dialog (I’m guessing) is pulled directly from Ed Macy’s book. Your gunner basically holds your hand and helps ensure you extract maximum pleasure and best chances of success. Realistic? Hardly! But the missions are about an hour each so getting a helping hand was, for me, welcome. But holy heck man! VTOL VR has really grown up since @BeachAV8R first exposed most of us to it all those years ago. There are thousands of single-player and multiplayer campaigns available. And probably tens of thousands of stand-alone missions. This Harrick campaign wasn’t even close as the highest rated in the Steam Workshop.

I also bought the T-55. It’s nice little jet. Basically a F-16 with carrier capability. The intent is to be something simple enough to attract non-sim types into the fold, with one of us as ā€œsalesmanā€ in the front or back seat helping them on the path to fandom. They don’t even have to buy it! $6, so hard to say no. Very fun around the boat with the HUD off!

[addendum] When I find something good I devour it until I can’t take anymore! Did mission 1 of the follow up to the above campaign. Best mission yet!

Oh wow…I can’t wait to give it a whirl. I have the next few days off…so I’ll definitely get back into VTOL VR. (I know, I know…I still have my Ukraine Pilot Training series to finish…)…

Yeah…and still a one-man show as far as I know putting out all that content. I’d love to see him focus on adding more targets and fleshing out the ground warfare portion a little more. I don’t need any additional graphics. Some weather and the ability to sling-load with the AV-42 would be awesome.

The T-55 is nice. I only just tried it a few times…but would love to hook up with someone and fly multiplayer. I’ll post in here if I find myself getting ready to play for a few hours.

VTOL VR is the sim I dream about when I think about coming home and playing something.

…and then I get home and am too tired to do anything other than browse the internet for a bit…make some food…and watch another episode of The Office.

Cool shots @PaulRix …!

The struggle is real. I can relate.

We definitely need to get a few of us together for some co-op flying.

Anyone interested in some VTOL VR multiplayer this afternoon, let’s say around 1pm Central US time?

Dang…just missed me. I have a soccer game to go to in a bit…and I’m on call, so that is always hard to fix a time. In the next few days I’ll be up to give it a whirl though. I may be on later tonight too…depending on whether I can browbeat the kids into coming over to watch Dune at my house…
