Welcome to the Mudspike Forums!

I’ll gladly explain my arcane gibberish when the time comes for it

Super excited to have discovered these forums and this community! I’ve only recently gotten bit by the flight sim bug but have loved sims of all kinds for quite a while. With my recent dive into flight simming though, I picked up the X-56 HOTAS and some rudder pedals and have completely fallen in love! I actually came across these forums when they came up in a search about the recent Air Hauler 2 release for X-Plane 11. I’m a PNW guy, so the talk of the VA being in the PNW certainly helped pique my interest :).

Now with a good HOTAS though, I find myself enjoying the flight sim even more (especially with FSE and now AH2). Need to go back and revisit Elite: Dangerous and Star Citizen I think. And I definitely want to check out all the hub-bub about DCS.

Anyways, so happy to have discovered these forums as I’ve been searching for a community to get involved with this addiction :).

Welcome to Mudspike @praqzis ! I might be a little biased at this point, but I think you have stumbled across one of the best Simming communities out there. Glad to have you aboard!

Welcome to the spike, may your amount of take-offs always be equalised with that of your landings! :flight_arrival:

Be sure to check out Il-2 Flying Circus, especially if you fly VR.

It’s not a requirement, though… Just ask @Hangar200.

Oh yeah, welcome, @praqzis!

Technically…if one were to take a slightly less-than-vigorous meaning for the word “Landings”…my takeoffs and landings, even in the Viggen, have always been equal…some Landings made use of a parachute while others were a bit more kinetic and volatile than what is considered the norm. Just say’n. :slightly_smiling_face:

I like that kind of abstraction!

I would draw the line somewhat more conservatively (as befits my newfound entrepreneur status) and say a landing can be considered as such only if and when both pilot and aircraft are reasonably fit for their intended duty after the event.

So you may make use of parachutes and such, have your landings be terrifyingly kinetic events, but if the end result is a wreck and a grave, that don’t count mate!

Welcome to Mudspike!

Flukes man! I be seeing th’ point ye be say’n so and can er, see the logic whereof. But I say to ye, now…

…sorry. I got a new Kindle and have b been reading Moby Dick over the past few days…the language kind of sticks with you…Avast!…OK, I think that was the last of it.

Anyway…So perhaps the word “Landing” is not the word I should be using. I simply think it important to note that for every time that I and my aircraft were borne aloft in the atmosphere, both the aircraft and I did in fact return to the lithosphere or hydrosphere. :slightly_smiling_face:

If the result of your return to the lithosphere entails the immediate discombobulation of both yourself and your vehicle, ie both you and the airplane utterly cease to exist, could you call that a return?

Both Aristotle and Zeno of Milete want a word with you mister!

I tend to take a more elemental view of the subject, rather than addressing it from a philosophical perspective. My (virtual) body and (virtual) aircraft are made of (virtual) atoms. It is these atoms that return to the aforementioned lithosphere and hydrosphere. Whether or not my (virtual) body returns as a fully functioning member of the Biosphere is another matter.

If I were to take a metaphysical bent on the subject I think I would adapt a stance more aligned with Descartes’s philosophy, to wit: I crash, therefore I am.

Welcome aboard !

it is a good thing it is not, as I would be the Mudspike official aircraft wax and polish guy , permanently grounded , or I would never have been allowed to register otherwise :grinning:.

Hi all
Having dropped combat sims about 15 years ago for other games due to hardware availability / costs (where I’ve been), they’ve once again crossed my path…
While availability is slightly better it’s not really adequate for a proper setup and the ‘from the shelf’ hardware is still rather expensive to source. I came across this forum during my search for information on controllers (esp DYI projects).

I’ll have some questions on the DYI projects in a bit of time to clear up any confussion from my side

Welcome to Mudspike. We have a diverse membership with a lot of experience in hardware (both off the shelf and custom built). Hopefully some of our guys can offer some assistance when you need some input.
